Did	you	know	that	in	2009,		 our	pharmacy	students	were	on	the	frontlines	of		 preventing	a	flu	epidemic	in	Colorado	by	vaccinating	hundreds	of	health	care	workers	against	H1N1	 flu?	It’s	true.	In	just	three	hours,	pharmacy	and	nursing	students	vaccinated	650	people	with	direct		 patient	care	responsibility	at	the	Anschutz	Medical	campus	alone.

	 		 Learning		 through	service

In	addition	to	the	flu	clinics,	our	students	and	faculty	helped	hundreds	of	Colorado	seniors		 understand	their	medications,	filled	thousands	of	prescriptions,	helped	prevent	numerous	medication		 	 errors	in	hospitals	by	reconciling	prescriptions	against	doctor’s	orders,	 and	conducted	blood	pressure,	cholesterol	and	osteoporosis	screenings.	 All	of	these	services	were	provided	for	free	–	all	in	an	effort		 for	students	to	learn	while	keeping	Coloradans	healthier.
