Congratulations
Raj Agarwal, PhD, and John Carpenter, PhD, were	recently	named	American	Association	for	the	 Advancement	of	Science	(AAAS)	Pharmaceutical		 Sciences	fellows.	Drs.	Agarwal	and	Carpenter	are	 two	of	only	eight	Pharmaceutical	Sciences	AAAS		 fellows	elected	in	2009. Laura Borgelt, PharmD, together	with	three	educator	and	research	colleagues	recently	completed	 “Women’s Health Across the Lifespan,”	an	educational,	 comprehensive	pharmacotherapy	reference	focusing	on	women	and	women’s	health	issues.	Designed	 as	a	contemporary	educational	text,	this	new	book		 contains	contributions	from	more	than	150	clinical		 experts	in	pharmacy,	medicine	and	nursing.	The	 work	comprises	49	peer-reviewed	chapters	organized	into	eight	sections,	resulting	in	an	in-depth	 examination	of	every	aspect	of	women’s	health		 from	a	pharmacotherapy	perspective. Kathleen McCartney, PharmD,	was	elected	chairelect	for	the	Continuing	Professional	Education	 Section	of	AACP.	McCartney	is	coordinator	for	the	 SOP’s	continuing	education	program	in	the	Office	 of	Post-graduate	Professional	Education.

Uday Kompella, PhD,	elected	as	a	fellow	of	the	 Association	for	Research	in	Vision	and	Ophthalmology	(ARVO).	ARVO	is	an	international		 organization	that	attracts	the	world’s	leading		 experts	in	ophthalmic	research.	The		 purpose	of	ARVO	is	to	encourage	and	 assist	research,	training,	publication,	and	 dissemination	of	knowledge	in	vision	and	 ophthalmology.	The	title	of	ARVO	fellow	is	 an	honor	established	to	recognize	current	 ARVO	members	for	their	individual	accomplishments,	leadership	and	contribution	to	 the	association.	 Manisha Patel, PhD,	was	recently	granted	 $300,000	by	The	Michael	J.	Fox	Foundation	 for	Parkinson’s	Research	to	continue	work	on	 developing	therapies	for	Parkinson’s	disease.		 Dr.	Patel	also	received	the	Epilepsy	Innovator	 Award	from	Citizens	United	for	Research	in		 Epilepsy	(CURE).	Innovator	awards	are	one-year	 grants	in	support	of	the	exploration	of	a	highly		 innovative	new	concept	or	untested	theory	that		 addresses	an	important	problem	relevant	to	epilepsy.	Patel’s	research	is	focusing	on	the	treatment	 of	epilepsy	with	a	catalytic	antioxidant.
