CLASS NOTES
JOHN CERNAC (BS '59) owner of
Blende Drug in Pueblo, Colo., was
recently awarded the Independent
Pharmacy Cooperative (IPC) 2017
Most Valuable Pharmacy Award.
This honor is bestowed on a cooperative member that embodies the
principles of the organization and
looks to IPC as a first resource for
their business needs. Cernac was
selected because of his exemplary
community awareness, community
activities and a focus on pharmacy
student growth. In addition to
the award, IPC made a financial
contribution to CU Skaggs School
of Pharmacy on behalf of Cernac.
CATHERINE "KATIE" DERINGTON
(PharmD '16) finished her PGY1
residency at The Ohio State
University Wexner Medical Center
in June 2017, and began a new job
as an Outcomes Research Fellow
in Ambulatory Care for CU Skaggs
School of Pharmacy in July 2017.
NORM FENN (PharmD '14) has been
loving his work as an Academic and
Ambulatory Care Fellow for Purdue
University since July 2016. Since
graduating in 2014, Norm completed
his PGY1 at Children's National Health
System, stayed on for a year as a
Clinical Pharmacist, then moved from
D.C. to West Lafayette, Indiana, which
he feels is a location much more
suited to his interests.
JENNIFER KWON (PharmD
'16) a former Pharmacy Student
Ambassador, has entered her
PGY2 as of July 2017 at Kaiser
Permanente as a Health Systems
Pharmacy Administration Resident
immediately after finishing her PGY1
residency at UCSF Medical Center as
a Pharmacy Practice Resident.
CATHY LAM (PharmD '16) graduated in 2016 and entered straight
into a Pharmacy Manager position
for K Mart, switching to managing
the pharmacy for Ralphs Grocery in
June 2017.
BOB LIGHT(BS '78) retired July
30th, 2017 after 51 years in
pharmacy. Bob is recognized as
a pioneer of compounding who
has helped the pharmaceutical
industry maintain and exceed
standards of quality set by state
and federal levels, and whose
methodologies have been adopted
by Walgreens across the country.
Bob and his wife ran Yosemite
Drug Corporation for 23 years until
2003, when he sold it to Walgreens
and took on the new responsibility
of teaching over 600 pharmacists
and technicians how to compound.
Since 2014, Bob has worked at
HUMCO, first as the senior director
of Compounding Professional
Services, and finally as the vice
president in the Pharmaceutical
Resource Center.
ASHLEY HALL SNYDER (PharmD
'09) has been working for the past
two years at Merck Pharmaceuticals
in San Francisco, Cali., as the
research scientific director in
Infectious Diseases.
JODI STARK (PharmD '16) has
completed her PGY1 residency at
Stanford Health Care in Stanford,
Cali., and as of July 2017, has begun
work as a clinical pharmacist at
UC Health Memorial Hospital in
Colorado Springs.
KAITLYN MOOREHEAD (PharmD
'14) completed her PGY1 residency
in 2015 and has been working as
the clinical pharmacy coordinator
at Community Memorial Health
System in Ventura, California
since August 2016. Not long after
graduating, Kaitlyn married Shane
Morales, and gave birth to her
daughter in January 2017. Kaitlyn
is currently on maternity leave,
and looking forward to a trip to
Vancouver with family.
LISA NGUYEN (PharmD '08)
completed her eighth year at St.
Joseph Hospital in August 2017.
She currently works as a clinical
pharmacist and is a Board Certified
Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
STEPHEN LEE (PharmD '13) has
stepped into a new position as an ER
pharmacist for UCI Medical Affiliates
in Orange County, California, leaving
his job of two years as a pharmacist
in the Emergency Department of
Englewood, Colorado's Swedish
Medical Center.
NASH ROBERTSON (PharmD '16)
has recently started a new career
with Kaiser Permanente as an
Ambulatory Care lead pharmacist.
Nash entered this position one
year after completing his PGY1
Residency with Kaiser Permanente
of Northern California.
JORDAN REESE (PharmD '15)
began a new position in April
2017 as a clinical pharmacist for
the State of Colorado in Pueblo,
Colorado. He formerly held a
two-year position as a pharmacist
at Parkview Medical Center in
Pueblo, Colorado.
LAURA VRIESMAN (PharmD '15)
started working at Denver's Sky
Ridge Medical Center as an ICU pharmacist in July 2017, the same month
she completed her PGY2 as a critical
care pharmacy resident. Laura
completed her PGY1 as a pharmacist
resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital
in June 2016.
