W
hile Karly Bergquist was on vacation in Italy, she dropped by Farmacia del Campo, a family
owned pharmacy in Siena. And, she got the shock of a lifetime.
After speaking with the owner, Pier Terigi Ceccherini, she discovered that he graduated
with a BS degree from none other than CU-Boulder more than 50 years ago! "What a small
world," says Bergquist.
"He was so happy that he toured me around his pharmacy, which he owns and runs with his
son and daughter, who will be graduating in October from pharmacy school," says Bergquist.
According to Bergquist, Italian pharmacies are mostly family owned and operated and quite busy, like those in the
US. There is one distinction between American and Italian pharmacies, though, "Pharmacist interaction is required
for OTC products even though a prescription is not necessary," she says.

as she will get to an Italian rotation
as she will be graduating in May and
staying in Colorado for a community
residency with Good Day Pharmacy.
