OUTSTANDING
PRECEPTOR OF
THE YEAR
Amy Go, PharmD, Clinical
Pharmacy Specialist
University of Colorado Hospital,
Medical/Surgical Progressive Care

In nominating Dr. Go, recipient of the
highest preceptor award, students praised
her ability to shape the experience to
meet students' goals and needs. They also
said she helped students hone communication and self-reflection skills.
"On my residency interviews," one
nomination said, "a lot of programs asked
me to describe my ideal preceptor, and I
found myself describing Amy."
Another said, "Before I even started
the rotation, Amy went beyond what my
other preceptors have done to ask what I
wanted out of the rotation and my goals
so she could tailor the rotation to my
interests and skills. She consistently gave
me great feedback on my performance
so I could improve. I feel I grew more
as a healthcare professional during her
rotation than any other rotation."

EMERGING LEADER
IN PRECEPTING
Morgan Payne, PharmD, Clinical
Pharmacist, Salud Family
Health Centers, Fort Collins,
and CU Pharmacy, Assistant
Professor of Clinical Pharmacy

In nominating Dr. Payne for the award
given to preceptors new to the program,
students remarked on her dedication to
her underserved patients and praised
her teaching ability.
"While I was on rotation with her,
I was able to learn a lot more about
caring for patients, not only clinically,
but also on a personal level," one nomination said.
Another said, "I was very inspired
by how she cares for the underserved
patients at her clinic. She tries her best
to make sure they are able to access
affordable medications and make sure
that patients understand how to safely
use the medications as well."

2019 PRECEPTOR AWARDS BANQUET

EXCELLENCE IN
FACULTY PRECEPTING
Joel Marrs, PharmD, CU
Pharmacy, Associate Professor
of Clinical Pharmacy

The faculty award is not given annually,
but is made when the review committee identifies an exceptional faculty
preceptor. Dr. Marrs was recognized
for his high expectations and strong
encouragement of students.
"I knew that Joel was committed
to my success, which motivated me
to exceed his high expectations," one
nomination form said.
"He always provided great encouragement and demonstrated that he believed
in my abilities, even before I fully believed
in myself. Having Joel push me to think
critically about each patient and to work
toward increasing levels of autonomy
throughout the rotation helped to instill
in me a greater level of confidence in
myself that I was able to carry forward
into all future rotations," another said.
