CuLLEN JONEs RECEIVEs “GOOD GuY” RECOGNItION The Good Men Project Magazine named National Teamer and Olympian Cullen Jones as one of the Top 10 Good Guys in Sports. Other athletes making the list included Roger Federer, Grant Hill and Ron Artest. Jones was recognized for his work with USA Swimming’s Make a Splash initiative, an effort to encourage water safety and minority participation in swimming. Joining Mutual of Omaha’s line-up of sponsored athletes are: Dagny Knutson, Ryan Lochte, Josh Schneider, Eric Shanteau, Dana Vollmer and David Walters. usA sWIMMING ANNOuNCEs WuG tEAM ROstER NCAA Champions Austin Surhoff and Tom Shields will headline a field of 47 swimmers that will represent Team USA at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China. The swimming competition will take place Aug. 14-19, while the Games will run from Aug. 12-23. To see the complete roster, go to usaswimming.org/nationalteam. fINA NAMEs LOChtE BEst MALE sWIMMER Of 2010 After a year of unbelievable performances in the pool, Ryan Lochte continued to receive recognition on an international scale in January. FINA Aquatics World Magazine, in cooperation with other members of the FINA family, unveiled its list of the Best Athletes of 2010. Lochte took home the award for Best Male Swimmer. WADA uPDAtEs 2011 PROhIBItED LIst The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published its 2011 Prohibited List. The list is in effect as of Jan. 1, 2011. fRANK BusCh NAMED usA sWIMMING NAtIONAL tEAM DIRECtOR USA Swimming named two-time Olympic coach Frank Busch as its National Team Director in February. Busch brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role, including 31 years as head coach at the University of Arizona and the University of Cincinnati, where he coached more than 30 swimmers to the Olympics. NBAC WINs sECOND stRAIGht CLuB ExCELLENCE tItLE For the second consecutive year, the North Baltimore Aquatic Club took top honors in USA Swimming’s Club Excellence rankings. The Maryland-based club scored 57,953 points, ahead of second-place Swim Atlanta (38,234 points) and third-place Curl-Burke Swim Club (35,565 points). ational Teamer Missy Franklin won three events on the final night of the Austin Grand Prix in January, extending her lead in the USA Swimming Grand Prix Series standings. At the time of print, Franklin was in the No. 1 spot on the Grand Prix leader board with 63 points, followed by Ryan Lochte with 35 points and Ricky Berens with 18.
The Austin Grand Prix was held Jan. 14-16 at the University of Texas. On the final night of competition, Franklin won the women’s 100m IM, 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle. She won five medals overall, picking up another gold in the 50m free and a silver in the 200m free. Also having an outstanding meet in Austin was National Teamer Tyler Clary, who won gold medals in the men’s 400m IM, 200m butterfly and 200m back.

Double winners in Austin included Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps, Eric Shanteau, Kate Ziegler and Elaine Breeden. The USA Swimming Grand Prix Series continued Feb. 18-21 in Columbia, Mo., and March 3-5 in Indianapolis. Results were not available at the time of print.
