MAILbAG DeAr splAsh: My father and I treated my daughter, Michaela, to a surprise weekend in Atlanta for the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool this past December. Not only were we just a few feet away from the world’s fastest swimmers with seats right on the pool deck, but we also had the time of our lives meeting and taking photos with many of the swimmers afterward. The most awesome moment was when Michaela was welcomed on the bus by Team USA. These extraordinary athletes were wonderfully gracious, asking Michaela who she swam for and then cheering “GO DRAGONS!” and “GO MICHAELA” when we told them she was “going for the gold” in her favorite event, the 50-yd breaststroke, with less than a second to drop for her first JO cut. What an incredible and inspiring moment — what an honor — we will both remember it for the rest of our lives! GO TEAM USA! Laura Avedisian Jupiter Dragons Swim Team • Jupiter, Fla. DeAr splAsh: This is a picture of my daughter Abigail Richey (Team VACS) at the Meet on the Hill in Chapel Hill, N.C. She had to swim the 200 back the 200 free and had just finished the 400 IM. I think this sums it up. Splash (IssN 1099-8306) is published bi-monthly by Usa swimming, and is mailed at the periodicals postage rate at Colorado springs, Colo., and additional mailing offices.
