stARtInG BLOCKS SWIM BRIEFS NoeL VasqUeZ/Getty IMaGes FABiAN wiNs the FiNA 10K mArAthoN swimmiNG worlD Cup iN ArGeNtiNA USA Swimming National Team member Eva Fabian took home the top prize in February at the second stage of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup in Viedma, Argentina. Fabian won the event with a time of 2:02:02.11. Six seconds behind her was fellow U.S. National Teamer Haley Anderson who finished second in 2:02:14.14. On the men’s side, Chip Peterson finished fourth with a time of 1:55:37.34, missing third place by only two seconds. The FINA 10k Marathon Swimming World Cup series has a total of eight international stops. The next race, which is third in the series, will take place April 1 in Eilat, Israel. International Water Safety Day is designed to educate youth in becoming safer in and around the water while spreading global awareness about the ongoing drowning pandemic. womeN’s 400m meDley relAy NAmeD usoC teAm oF the moNth The U.S. Olympic Committee named the women’s 400m medley relay that competed at the 2011 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool as its Team of the Month in January. Natalie Coughlin, Rebecca Soni, Dana Vollmer and Missy Franklin kicked off the meet, held Dec. 16-17 in Atlanta, Ga., with a short course world record, turning in a time of 3:45.56. Coughlin led off the relay in 55.97, setting an American record.
