Olympic trials preView From June 25 to July 2, the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska hosts the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. The results will provide up to 26 men and 26 women the highest athletic honor – representing the U.S. at the 2012 Olympic Games. To make the most of the amazing meet, here’s a guide to some of the swimmers you’ll be sure to be hearing more about come summer. trials pressures Of the hundreds of swim meets held each year in the United States, one stands out above the rest: the Olympic Team Trials. Every four years, more than a thousand of the country’s elite swimmers gather for an eight-day, pressure-packed meet, all hoping to realize their lifelong dream of competing in the Olympic Games. With only 26 roster spots available for both men and women, nerves and excitement are high and room for error is virtually zero. Who better to ask how they handle the expectations and hype surrounding this meet than a couple of swimmers who have been through it all before?
BehinD the scenes Spectators at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be privy to a special show: laser light displays, waterfalls, pyrotechnics, a glowing competition pool, and of course some of the most incredible races of all time. But there’s another show not visible to fans. Trials veterans Jessica Hardy and Ricky Berens go behind the scenes with Splash to share what only a very few experience. the Venue If you attended the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, you most likely remember the fanfare, the numerous world records and the millions of gallons of water sitting in a pool specifically (and quickly) built for the event on the floor of the arena. With Trials back in Omaha, Neb., this summer, you can expect more of the same – along with a few changes.
