Utah Travel Guide 2012 - 39

SOUTHWESTERN UTAH AREAS
Towering sandstone formations, scenic slot canyons, colorful sand dunes, rolling sagebrush, and expanses of forest fill this diverse swath of Utah. Scenic Hwy12 is one of the most spectacular drives in the western United States, running from the town of Torrey to the town of Panquitch, and passing through the Cockscomb Ridge, the Red Gate formation, the Dixie National Forest, Bryce Canyon National Park, and BLM’s Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. To the west, the Parowan Gap is renowned for the Fremont petroglyphs incised on its walls. Further south, the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area offers more than 130 miles of non-motorized recreation trails for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trail riding, as well as camping and day use areas. SOUTHEASTERN UTAH AREAS
The extraordinarily scenic and diverse landscape of BLM land in Southeastern Utah provides a kaleidoscopic range of opportunities for those seeking outdoor experiences – from casual sightseeing, to mountain biking, rock climbing, and river running on the Green and Colorado Rivers. Mountain biking in this canyon country can be anything from a challenging ride on the Slickrock Bike Trail, which offers a terrific combination of challenging riding and scenery, to a leisurely ride along backcountry roads. The area also boasts hundreds of OHV routes and hiking trails as well. Cedar Mesa, in particular, is a popular area for hiking and backpacking. A highlight is the serpentine Grand Gulch, and its miles of winding canyons with perfectly-preserved ancient cliff dwellings and granaries. Muley Point Overlook and Valley of the Gods offer panoramic views and unbelievable photo opportunities. Moab Office: 82 E. Dogwood, Moab, 84532, (435) 259-2100 Monticello Office: 365 N.
