Palisade Reservoir draws swimmers, anglers and non-motorized watercraft enthusiasts. There is also an 18-hole golf course with a practice range and a professional golf shop.

2 ESCALANTE PETRIFIED FOREST SP

Contrasted by blue skies, juniper and pinyon pines, and steep red cliffs, this park is a wonderful place for camping, taking photographs, riding off-highway vehicles or just relaxing and playing in the sand. Also, as the only major sand dune field on the Colorado Plateau, this park is a unique geologic feature that should not be missed.

Situated at 7,600 feet, Scofield State Park is a summer and winter recreation destination. The lake offers boating and year-round fishing and is a base for winter snowmobiling and cross-country skiing

Escalante State Park has nature trails through the remnants of a petrified forest, where hikers can view fossils, petrified wood, fossilized dinosaur bones, and artifacts left by ancient Fremont Indians who inhabited this area nearly 1,000 years ago. Nearby Wide Hollow Reservoir provides boating, canoeing, fishing, and bird watching opportunities.
3 KODACHROME BASIN STATE PARK

The Frontier Homestead State Park Museum tells the story of settling Iron County. Displays include horse-drawn vehicles and a collection of pioneer artifacts. The Museum features displays and hands on demonstrations dedicated to pioneer life, early mining and transportation history.

The Territorial Statehouse is Utah’s oldest existing government building. In anticipation of statehood, Brigham Young directed construction of the building in 1855. Three years later, the seat of government returned to Salt Lake City.

The warm waters of Yuba State Park provide a variety of recreation opportunities. Sandy beaches, along with OHV riding areas, lure visitors. One of the few state parks with boat-in camping, Yuba is popular with fishermen and boaters.

Kodachrome Basin is a spectacle of massive sandstone chimneys and pillars which change from gray and white to shades of red depending on the day’s mood. The park offers camping in solitude and desert beauty immediately adjacent to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
