Suzy Hart: Coming from a large convention resort in Texas, I was excited for the opportunity
to take the helm at Gaylord Rockies. As the largest combined resort and convention center
in Colorado, the property offers an extraordinary environment with everything in one
place. From day one, the resort has been focused on providing guests with an authentic
Colorado experience and creating a true sense of place. Of course, Colorado is also a
fabulous place to live. My husband and I have always loved everything about this
VA: What stands out about Gaylord Rockies as a meetings and events hotel?
SH: Not only is Gaylord Rockies in close proximity to the airport and the metro area, the
compact footprint and ease of navigation is paramount for meeting and event guests. The
convention center is composed of a great mix of ballroom spaces and breakout rooms,
offering the ability to host groups on different levels without interacting or overlapping with
each other. Event clients have the flexibility of using Aurora Ballroom as a fully furnished
ballroom or as part of an exhibit space. Furthermore, outdoor event lawns give us even more
flexibility, and windows in pre-function spaces boast stunning views of the mountains.
VA: What has been the overall feedback from groups?
team-building and dining experience with
talented chefs, and on-site restaurants like
Comida and Rolling Smoke BBQ also have
food trucks that can be booked for off-site
gatherings. The Hangar at Stanley is just one
of the many venues available to rent at Stanley
S T A M P E D E rents its 35,000-sq-ft,
two-story club to groups and offers lessons
for line dancing and country-western dancing
along with private instruction. This updated
space is part of On Havana Street, a foodie
paradise perfect for impressing attendees
with dishes inspired from across the globe.
SH: For years, groups have looked forward to the opportunity of a viable single-hotel option,
and many groups have experienced record attendance due to the new location and hotel.
The nontraditional spaces that we offer (Mountain Pass, Grand Lodge, outdoor lawns) add
tremendous value to their event, and groups have been pleasantly surprised that small
meetings actually work well, too.
VA: As Aurora further develops its reputation as a top-notch meetings and events
destination, what does that mean for Gaylord Rockies, the community, and groups?
SH: As Aurora continues to expand its role, meetings at Gaylord Rockies help increase group
awareness of what makes Aurora unique. Groups are seeking a taste of what they cannot get
elsewhere, and places such as Stanley Marketplace provide those experiences. Additionally,
there are a multitude of opportunities to make meaningful connections in this area, such as
our partnership with Dry Dock Brewery and Anschutz Children's Hospital. Ultimately, there
are so many drivers that help influence the decision to host a meeting or event in Aurora:
access to the airport, Gateway to the Rockies, medical innovation at the University of
Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Buckley Air Force Base, etc.
