From veteran beer makers
to brewers who also
happen to specialize in tea
and barbecue, there are
plenty of surprises and
deliciousness awaiting
beer lovers.
With approximately 430 breweries within its
borders, Colorado ranks fourth in breweries
per capita in the U.S., an impressive statistic
since the state is home to less than 2%
of the country's population. Aurora has 10
craft breweries and one more set to open in
2022, so head out on a taproom tour to find
out why the Centennial State has earned
its reputation as a craft beer powerhouse.

Jade Mountain Brewing

Sean Guerrero takes brewing seriously,
including both beer and tea! It's
not some scheme to stand out
from the amazing Colorado
craft brewery scene.
Instead it plays off the
fact that he began making
beer in 2016 inside a small
teahouse in Huzou, China, his
wife's home country. Guerrero
began studying Chinese in college more
as a scheduling fit than anything, found he
liked the language, and made trips to China.
In June 2021, he opened Jade Mountain
Brewing Company in Aurora, transforming a
former brewery and taproom into a casual
place with an urban Asian teahouse vibe and
an outdoor patio complete with fire pits.
Guerrero blends Colorado yeast and malt
with ingredients like rice, jasmine flowers,
dragon fruit and Sichuan chili to create light,
hoppy, sour, and dark beers like Silk Road
rice India pale ale, Moon Goddess fruited
dark sour, Ronin rice saison, and Red Guard
red lager. In the tea realm, you'll find boba
tea, hard tea on tap, and various hot teas.

Six Capital Brewing also offers a new
type of brewery experience in Aurora, this
one with a scratch kitchen that utilizes
local products as much as possible and
focuses on mouthwatering barbecue. While
rotating food trucks, bowls of pretzels,
and bring-your-own
eats are a normal
part of the craft
brewery scene,
Blake Butler
has combined
two decades
of honing his
craft as a chef
and manager at
restaurants with his
experience teaching
homebrewing classes
and immersion in everything
related to Colorado craft beer to launch Six
Capital Brewing with his wife, Justyna.
The name Six Capital Brewing is derived
from the six temporary capitals of the
Republic of Texas (1836-1839), starting from
independence until settling on Austin, the
current state capital. Ironically, Aurora is
located on what was once the border of the
Republic! Six Capital Brewing specializes
in classic beer styles, while adding unique
twists along the way, and highlights
other Colorado beers, spirits, meads, and
