WHAT'S NEW
IN MADDEN
ULTIMATE TEAM?
Madden Ultimate Team continues to be
one of the most popular modes, and
this year's offering looks to be bigger
and better than ever. Two main additions will challenge the MUT faithful in
new and exciting ways.
First are Ultimate Challenges, a new
take on Solo Challenges from previous
years. Each new challenge comes with
three difficulty levels; the higher the
difficulty, the better the reward.
Second are Missions, a new way
to experience Ultimate Team. Missions acts as a "roadmap" to specific
upgrades, allowing players to enhance
their team as they wish. Missions give
players a focused path to building the
MUT team of their dreams without having to search for the items they need.
Ultimate Challenges and Missions
are just two of the changes coming,
meaning that players will have their
work cut out for them in Ultimate Team
this year.

Mike Young gives a great example of how
it works: "Patrick Mahomes has the 'Bazooka'
X-Factor Zone ability, which allows him to throw
the ball 80 yards. In order to activate this ability
he has to complete a certain number of long
passes to get himself into the zone, and once
it's activated his X-Factor ability remains in play
until either he finishes the drive or is sacked."
These perks are designed to make superelite players at every position actually feel like
gamechangers, instead of just another player
on the field. "In past years you haven't really felt
extra-powerful playing as Tom Brady or been a
little afraid to play against him," Young says, "but
now that he has a Superstar X-Factor you might
actually change your gameplan to either get him
more involved or try and disrupt him if you're
on defense." Every roster has at least one player
with a Superstar X-Factor, and those abilities and
their pre-reqs are clearly visible on each team's
roster screen, so players can know exactly who
they should be focusing on. As Young puts it: "We
want X-Factor players to be the guys you have to
watch out for every time they're on the field because they can take over a game if you let them."
