WOLFENSTEIN
RPG
In the same way that Far Cry New Dawn
added RPG elements to its series' tried-andtrue formula, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is giving players a little more to earn and unlock.
According to game director Jerk
Gustafsson, Youngblood's player progression is "level-based" and the game "has
a number of cosmetic items that can be
unlocked just by playing the game or with
real money."
Weaponry will have much more dynamic progression this time, too.
"Where in New Colossus we had a total
of about 20 weapon upgrades, we have a
total of about 150 in Youngblood," Gustafsson said. "On top of that, each of them can
be levelled up. In addition, this is the first
game where we allow players to customize
their weapons with new skins."
It sounds like Wolfenstein: Youngblood
will give players more to work toward
than previous titles in the series-including a "number of activities even after the
campaign has been completed," Gustafsson said.

"We wanted to make
a spin-off story that
was a continuation
of the series, but at
the same time felt
like an exploration of
something new."
GAME DIRECTOR JERK GUSTAFSSON

Nazis to kill, and unique moves only two people
can pull off, according to game director Jerk
Gustafsson. Building a co-op Wolfenstein meant
thinking "in a much more nonlinear fashion,"
meaning that "players will be able to take on
missions in any order they please."

While Youngblood takes place after
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Youngblood's
nonlinear approach is one of the reasons why
it isn't called Wolfenstein III.
"We wanted to make a spin-off story that
was a continuation of the series, but at the
same time felt like an exploration of something new," Gustafsson said. "So, the name
Youngblood refers to the next generation
taking over the duties of Nazi killing, a fresh
take on the series, and that it's a spin-off story."
However, players invested in Wolfenstein's
overall lore will "find out bits and pieces about
what happened between then and now, without delving into too many details."
A lot is changing in Youngblood, but the
core experience will always be about one
thing.
"The game is all about helping one another
and building that sisterly bond to kick Nazi
butt," Gustafsson said. "And there will be a lot
of Nazi butt to kick."
