n the early days of the PlayStation 4, one of the standout
releases that helped showcase
the power of Sony's new platform
was unquestionably Infamous Second
Son. Developer Sucker Punch Productions' tale of a young graffiti artist and
his supernatural powers made for a
larger-than-life adventure filled with
gameplay and graphics that only a
next-generation system could provide.
Now, as the PlayStation 4 moves
into its final years, Sucker Punch is
back to remind us all just how much
life the console still has left. And
it's doing so through a game that
couldn't be more different either
stylistically or thematically.
Far from Second Son's fantastical abilities and modern-day setting,
Ghost of Tsushima instead tells a
more grounded tale from feudal
Japan. Set on Tsushima Island in
the year 1274, players step into the

role of Jin Sakai, a warrior trying
to protect his home during the first
Mongol invasion of Japan. Trained
by his uncle, the lord of Tsushima, Jin
has learned the ways of the samurai
since he was a child. Now, however,
he is forced to throw away his code
of honor in order to defeat an enemy
who has no qualms about being ruthless at every opportunity.
Thankfully Jin won't be alone as
he fights to free his home
from its foreign invaders. One
ally he'll meet along the way
is Masako, a female samurai
whose plans for victory might
not always match up with
Jin's. Even when he has to
go it solo, however, Jin will
be his own one-man army.
Between his history as a
samurai and his new life as
a "ghost," players will have a
wide arsenal of weapons and

skills to use against foes. While there
promises to be plenty of more intense,
action-heavy moments, the team is
building Ghost of Tsushima to also
offer more strategic, defensive battles,
where one swing of a sword can mean
the difference between victory and defeat. Sometimes Jin will even take the
less direct approach to defeating his
enemy, finding moments when stealth
is the best course of action.
