ROAMING THE
COUNTRYSIDE

Players step into the role of Jin Sakai, a warrior
trying to protect his home during the first Mongol
invasion of Japan.
From its big, epic battles, to its
more intense one-on-one duels,
to its stealthier moments, Ghost
of Tsushima will be a visual and
aural treat the entire way through,
seeming almost like an experience
you'd expect for the upcoming next

may/june 2020

generation of consoles. Instead,
Ghost of Tsushima is the result of
a studio working hard to make use
of everything learned over the life
of the PS4-and we can't think of
a better game to help cap off that
long legacy of greatness.

Infamous Second Son's version of Seattle
was a playground for both protagonist
Delsin Rowe and the players controlling him,
offering an open world full of opportunities
for unleashing a variety of superpowers.
For a more grounded and realistic game
like Ghost of Tsushima, on the other hand,
you might initially expect to find a more
focused and linear recreation of Japan.
But developer Sucker Punch decided that
wouldn't suit the experience it wanted to
create. The team sees the sort of virtual
sandbox offered by Second Son as integral to
modern gaming, and wanted to continue to
offer players the greater feelings of power
and authority that open worlds allow.
Because of this, Ghost of Tsushima's
version of the Japanese isle of Tsushima will
be a sprawling land filled with a wide variety
of locations to travel to, towns to visit, and
people to meet. And, no matter where you
go, the team has worked hard to craft a slice
of historical Japan that'll be as beautiful to
look at as it is exciting to explore.

As last looks go,
you could do worse.
