Batteries Alpha’s High Performance Battery Increases Runtime And Decreases Operating Expenses Energy density in CoinPower cells is up to 30 percent higher than comparable products and may be recharged more than 1,000 full cycles above 80 percent of their initial capacity. The cell can be fast charged in half an hour. Charging can be accomplished using standard charging ICs for reduced complexity in the circuit design. Alpha Technologies, Inc. has developed a pure lead battery line, the AlphaCell HP, to ensure optimal life and performance for cable network applications. Due to highly automated manufacturing, there is low product variability and high product quality and reliability. This purelead technology is enhanced by using thin plates that provide more surface area to increase the energy density. The increased energy density translates into increased runtime capabilities with the 4.0 HP model producing an impressive 240 minutes of runtime. In addition to life expectancy gains, the new technology allows for low rate of self-discharge, which translates into a longer shelf life. The AlphaCell HP line currently offers a three to five times longer shelf life than the standard VRLA. Other features include 100 percent runtime capacity out-of-box with no cycling required, maintenance-free threaded inserts and a wide operating temperature. The increased performance in cold temperatures can also eliminate the need for battery heater mats in certain environments. Alpha is currently offering a four to five year (varies by location) full replacement warranty. VARTA Microbattery GmbH has announced a new line of rechargeable lithium ion batteries. The CoinPower family of cells deliver 3.7 V with available capacities ranging from 40 mAh to 80 mAh at 1C rate. The smallest cell measures 12 mm in diameter, 5 mm in height and weighs 1.4 grams. The line of CoinPower cells features a number of patented technical innovations. These improvements include a new sealing system ILok, new coil process technologies, cell enclosure design, coil contact isolation technology and laser coil connection.
