Wide Input 10 Watt DC-DC Converters with
Reinforced Insulation
Power Sources Unlimited, Inc. has released the THB-10
series of high-isolation DC-DC converter modules in an industry standard 2 inch by 1 inch package. The THB-10 series
is a family of
high performance
10 watt DC-DC
converter modules
that feature 4,200
VAC isolation with
supplementary,
reinforced insulation and are safety
approved to IEC/
EN/UL 60950-1
industrial and IEC/
EN/UL60601-1 3rd
edition medical safety standards. There are 12 standard models
of 5, 12, ±12 and ±15 VDC fully-regulated single or dual outputs. Product highlights include 2:1 wide input voltage ranges
of 9 to 18 VDC, 18 to 36 VDC and 36 to 75 VDC, overload
protection, continuous short-circuit protection and 2x MOOP
rating. The operating temperature range is specified for –40°C
to 85°C and all models have an internal input filter to meet EN
55022, class A.
The THB-10 series offers an economical solution for demanding applications in industrial and medical instrumentation
requesting a certified supplementary or reinforced insulation
system to comply with industrial or the latest medical safety
standards. Units start under $37 in OEM quantities. Prototypes
are available in two weeks. All Traco Power products are backed
by a three year warranty.
DC/DC for Electric Vehicle Applications
Calex Mfg. Co., Inc. has announced the 450 watt EVD-89S-450-G3201 DC/DC converter. The EVD is a ruggedized DC/
DC converter suitable for electric vehicle, marine, industrial and
other applications that draw power from a bank of batteries or
another high voltage DC power source. The input range of the
EVD is 50 to 125 VDC. The output voltage range is 13.6 VDC
to 14 VDC, making the unit well suited for powering on board
accessories, lights and instruments. The output current rating of
the EVD is 33 A with output surge capability up to 45 A.
The EVD-89-S-450-G3201 is isolated input to output. The
isolation voltage is 1,500 VAC. Overall output voltage accuracy
is ±3 percent. Line and load regulation is ±0.02 percent and
5 percent respectively. Output ripple is 130 mV peak to peak.
The efficiency of the unit is 90 percent. The ambient operating
range is -40°C to 55°C. The unit is protected by over voltage
protection, thermal overload shutdown and short circuit protection and backed by Green Watt Power’s five year warranty.
3 kW Power Supplies Provide Wide Output Adjustability
Absopulse Electronics’ LPS 3K AC/DC power supply series
with PFC input was designed specifically for applications that
require wide output adjustability. This heavy-duty, industrial
grade series is available in bench-top and 19-inch rack-mount
format and is suitable for product testing and similar purposes in
engineering labs or in the field.
A broad range of models are available, with lead times of
only a few weeks. The units are built with internal modules that
are typically available from stock for the output ranges 14 to 37
V (24 V) at 80 A, 28 to 74 V (48 V) at 40 A or 60 to 160 V (125
V) at 18 A. Output voltage and current are displayed on analog
meters on the front-panel of the unit. Output voltage adjustments
are made via a potentiometer knob that is located just below the
meters. Electronic adjustment by analog control voltage (0 to 10
V or similar) is also available. The isolated, floating output can
be grounded to either terminal so the unit can be used in either
positive or negative grounded systems or left floating.
The unit accepts a universal AC-input voltage (95 V to 264
VAC). The power factor is corrected to a minimum of 0.97 at
full load for the entire input range, ensuring low input harmonic
distortion in compliance with EN6100-3-2 and EN61000-3-12.
The AC input is equipped with a 50 A input breaker, which is
also used as an On/Off switch and is located on the front-panel
for easy access. Other protection features include inrush current
limiting, rectangular current limiting with short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown with self-resetting once conditions
have normalized.
Cooling is by three high quality internal fans that provide
sufficient airflow for operation at full specification over a 0ºC to
50ºC temperature range. Extended temperature ranges are available on request. The bench-top design is housed in a ruggedly
constructed 3U by 381 mm by 305 mm chassis and the rackmount version in a 3U by 19 inches by 305 mm chassis.
