Hardware Elma’s 3U VPX Virtex-6 FPGA Includes VITA 57 FMC Front-End for Flexible I/O The Systems division of Elma Electronic, Inc. has introduced the TIC-FEP-VPX3b, an FPGA-based 3U VPX front-end processing board that provides an FMC site coupled to a large capacity Virtex-6 FPGA for extremely flexible I/O. Designed for digital signal processing (DSP), the TIC-FEP-VPX3b is suited for applications such as radar, sonar, electronic warfare, imaging and communications. The board offers high performance logic, increased SerDes based I/O and powerful DSP slice resources that meet higher bandwidth and performance demands, while utilizing up to 25 percent less power. Supported by low power and high speed GTX transceivers at rates up to 6.5 Gbps, the board enables the application of interfaces used in today’s embedded systems. On-board PCIe Gen 1 and Gen 2 protocols, via a hard IP block and Ethernet MAC blocks, allow PCIe x4 and GbE interfaces to be implemented from the FPGA to form data and control planes respectively. Built to the VPX specifications, the TIC-FEP-VPX3b includes four four-lane fabric ports on the P1, connected by GTX transceivers to the main FPGA. The four fat pipe channels provide the PCIe x4 and GbE interfaces as well as two x4 expansion ports. Featuring an on-board Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA, the board comes with two banks of 40-bit 1.25 GB DDR3 memory with transfer rates of 7.5 Gbps and a Spartan-6 control node, used to load logic images into the main FPGA. The Spartan-6 control node enables ‘on the fly’ bitstream management for dynamic FPGA configuration. Other resources include zero bus turnaround (ZBT) SRAM with a throughput of 400 MB/sec for expedited read/write processing. The GTX transceivers can be grouped to form multi-lane Aurora pipes supporting inter-VPX card connection, allowing the FPGA processor boards to be very tightly coupled via point-to-point or mesh topology. The board fits scalable architectures, where more than one FPGA processor is required. have an operating temperature of -67°F to 225°F and are heat resistant to 750°F. Amphenol’s expanded line of IP68-8 rated connectors features armored and sheathed cable built to IEE-45/UL1309, IEC, BS, DIN and JIC standards as well as unarmored cables and flexible cables, including S, SO, SOOW-A, W and G-GC types. To eliminate cumbersome handling and sealing of inserts with conductors attached, Neptune features ample wiring space for the cable housings to slip over the conductors after termination. The contact inserts are interchangeable and reversible to suit specific needs. The contacts are made from nickel silver alloy plating with optional gold plating available. Conductors are readily terminated to easily accessible pressure wire terminals. Neptune connectors are resistant to 60 Gs, exceeding MIL-STD-167-1 vibration standards. Conec Develops High-Frequency D-Subminiature EMI Filter Connectors Amphenol’s Expanded Neptune Connector Line Provide Better Environmental Protection Amphenol Industrial has expanded its line of Neptune connectors to include an inline receptacle that provides better protection from environmental elements. Designed to provide reliable connection in the most demanding power generation and distribution environments, Neptune connectors are 50 percent smaller in size and weight than competitive models. The inline configuration seals the receptacle’s backshell on the outer jacket cable, versus an open backshell on a panel mount receptacle, enabling the connector to withstand harsh conditions typically found in rugged power applications. Featuring Amphenol’s patented Radsok system, the Neptune line is equipped with plugs and receptacles from 30 amps to 400 amps at 600 volts and has a dielectric strength of 1,800 volts. Its lightweight, rugged aluminum hardware is precision machined from high-tensile strength bar stock and finished with a hard coating to 40 points on the Rockwell C scale. The connectors 24 Conec has developed a series of EMI-filtered connectors that provide near linear performance up to 1 GHz and beyond. The EMI-filtered D-subminiature connector series features a proprietary ceramic planar that provides a higher linear performance with better insertion loss. “As more and more electronics become portable there are more and more sources of electromagnetic energy, and frequencies have climbed beyond 1 GHz. Therefore, the standard filter solution is no longer an ideal solution,” said Fred Kozlof, technical support specialist, CONEC. “In order to provide a solution for all of these issues, Conec has developed EMI-filtered D-sub connectors that are competitively priced with the ‘chip cap’ types.” CONEC EMI-Filtered D-subminiature connectors are available in standard sizes of 9 thru 50 positions and in solder cup, straight PC tail, right-angle PCB (in all three standard footprints) and ‘malefemale’ adapter termination styles. These connectors are also available in non-magnetic styles for medical applications such as MRI machines and in high-density versions in sizes 15 thru 78. The connectors are also available sealed for an IP67 rating for harsh environment applications. New IEEE1101.10/11 Injector/Ejector KM6-RF Front Panel Assemblies Verotec has revamped its range of IEEE1101.10/11 compliant subrack front panels with an improved design of injector/ ejector latching handle. The improved design helps generate greater insertion and extraction force, provides a superior stainless steel EMC fingered gasket that improves contact with the adjacent panel and comes with a ROSH-compliant iridite finish that gives enhanced conductivity and corrosion resistance. The KM6-RF extruded U section panels are available in heights of 3U and 6U and widths of 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12HP, and the handles include as standard a pre-location pin and an ESD protection pin. A live extraction micro switch and additional screw fixings are optional extras.
