Power tions requiring large quantity cell-count designs, 10 percent fewer cells are required for the same operating voltage, offering the ability to make systems smaller and reduce costs. Additionally, supercapacitors help reduce total cost of ownership by offering a longer lifespan and higher reliability compared to systems that rely only on batteries for energy storage. Eaton's TV supercapacitors provide a significant increase in performance over 2.7V supercapacitors, resulting in a 35 percent increase in usable discharge energy, with typical 0.3 V de-rating. The stored energy of the TV cells allow longer back up times for flash storage servers. The product is a drop-in replacement for Eaton's HB and HV product offerings. Eaton's TV cells deliver equivalent series resistance (ESR), broad capacitance ratings from 6 to 100 farads (F) and a wide temperature range between minus 40°C and 65°C. The cells are manufactured in a TS16949 certified factory. Excelsys Enhances Online Configurator for Building the Simplest, Most Cost-Effective User-Configurable Power Supplies Excelsys Technologies has enhanced its online Power Supply Configurator to align with the newly introduced CoolX Series of 600 W convection-cooled power supplies. It has also added options for searching for new capabilities, features and functions offered by their very successful Xgen, UltiMod and Xsolo product lines. The enhanced online configurator enables system designers to quickly and costeffectively define and build "instant" custom power supplies optimized for their specific application. Excelsys' user-configurable power supplies continue to evolve to address a wide range of medical, industrial, MIL-COTS and other applications used in very sensitive or harsh conditions. To keep pace with the products' unique plug-and-play architectures and a growing selection of features, the enhanced Power Supply Configurator makes it easy for the user to simply select by input voltage, output power requirements and safety agency approvals. They can also add output control options, reverse fans, acoustic noise, low-leakage current, conformal coating and extra ruggedization. Once a search is complete, the configurator applies any necessary deratings, based on input line and fan choices, and then recommends a tailored power supply recommendation optimized for the specific application. The part number generated by a search may be used to obtain the product from any Excelsys global channel partner. If the requirements of the project are outside the range of the configurator, the Excelsys application engineering team will usually be able to offer a solution based on two or more power supplies connected in series or in parallel. Typical medical applications for the Excelsys user-configurable modular power supplies include clinical diagnostic equipment, medical and cosmetic lasers, dialysis equipment, radiological imaging and clinical chemistry. Industrial applications include test and measurement, industrial machines, automation equipment, printing, telecommunications and audio equipment. They also include applications for high-reliability, MIL-COTS harsh environmental electronics, radar (naval and ground-based), communications, IT, wafer fabrication, optical inspection, wire bonding, automated test equipment, and test and measurement systems. www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com *Fall 2016 27 http://www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com
