Enclosures Hammond Introduces Miniature Enclosures Optimized for USB Interconnect When USB3.0 was introduced, offering theoretical data signaling rates of 5 Gbits/s compared with the 480 Mbits/s available from USB2.0, the protocol became significantly more useful across a variety of applications. The latest standard to be published, USB3.1, further increases performance to 10 Gbits/s and reduces line encoding overhead. All flavors use a Type A standard plug as the interface to the host machine. To house small PCBs using USB as the external power and signal interconnect, Hammond Manufacturing has extended its popular 1551 miniature family with three new sizes: 1.38, 1.97 or 2.56 inches. (35, 50 or 65 mm) long, 0.79, 0.98 or 1.18 inches (20, 25 or 30 mm) wide respectively, all 0.61 inches (15.5 mm) high. The sizes have been chosen after customer consultation to provide prototype builders and small volume OEMs generous room for their PCB. The 1551USB IP54 ABS enclosures are a traditional lid and base design. All versions feature a dedicated cut-out for a standard USB Type A plug in one end and have a recess in the lid for an inlay, label or HMI keypad. The two smaller units have two PCB standoffs molded into the base; the largest one has four. NEMA 4X Hinged WQ Series are Some of Polycase's Largest Enclosures Polycase has introduced the WQ series of hinged NEMA 4X enclosures in five sizes up to 24 by 20 inches. The WQ series meets NEMA 4X and IP67 requirements. The enclosures are molded from impact-resistant polycarbonate reinforced with fiberglass which offers a durable and long-lasting alternative to higher-priced metal enclosures. The WQ series is well suited for applications in network communications, alternative energy, industrial automation, or anywhere electrical and electronic components require protection from the elements. The hinged cover, which is available in clear or opaque, allows for easy access to internal components. Optional accessories for the WQ series include internal mounting panels and a variety of cable management solutions. To aid engineers in the development of projects and applications, Polycase provides 2D drawings and 3D models of the WQ Series available for instant download directly from www.polycase.com/wq-series. High Top RAILTEC C DIN Rail Enclosures OKW has extended its RAILTEC C DIN rail enclosures range with a new high top version. High top RAILTEC C is suitable for applications including automation, building and safety, HVAC, timers, sensors, relays, lighting controls, subrack interfaces, modules, amplifiers and transformers. Enclosures lock quickly and easily on to TH35 rails. They are available with a closed or an open front (which has easily removable ridges to give stability during transport). Both versions feature two sides open for connections. They can accommodate up to four terminal guards (available as accessories). There are fastening pillars in the bottom section plus guides for installing PCBs. Case parts snap together for easy assembly. High top RAILTEC C is available in one size: six modules wide (4.21 by 3.54 by 4.49 inches). It is molded from light gray polycarbonate (UL 94 V-0). Prices start at $17. Accessories include 2-pin, 5-pin and 9-pin plug headers; a 9-pin terminal block; terminal guards (either closed, perforated or with five, six or nine holes) plus front panels in light gray opaque, transparent and red or smoked gray translucent polycarbonate. 22 Summer 2016 * www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com http://www.polycase.com/wq-series http://www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com
