at the Materials Technology Center worked with industry partners
to develop a new magnet-based proton therapy system for
cancer treatment. Through the use of magnetic focusing, doctors
can now aim proton beams precisely onto a tumor, minimizing
damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.
In 2020, demand for EEC's products surged as essential businesses
rushed to secure critical EEC magnet systems needed
during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company quickly implemented
safety measures such as remote work, staggered shift
changes, and evolving workplace safety protocols to protect its
employees while still satisfying customer requirements for critical
products.

A cave-in at the San Jose gold and copper mine resulted in 33
miners being trapped underground. The only rescue option was
to drill a borehole down to the trapped miners and extract them.

Finally, in October of 2010, the last miner was extracted; the
rescue plan was a huge success.
