higher impedance at high frequencies. Ideal applications for the
nanocrystalline cores include AC current transformers, zero phase
current transformers, DC immunity current transformer, Hall Effect
sensors with cut current transformer cores.
Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Magnetics operates globally, specializing
in research, design and production of powder cores, ferrite cores
and tape wound cores for applications such as chokes, inductors,
filters, transformers and power supply components for use in alternative energy, uninterruptible power supplies, telecommunications, aerospace, military, medical and other electronics systems.

L-shape powder cores
Magnetics, a supplier of precision soft magnetic
components and materials to the electronics industry,
has come out with new series of powder cores and
nanocrystalline cores. Shown above are the company's new EER shape powder cores with geometry
that provides excellent space utilization for improved
component efficiency, energy storage capacity, and
power by volume.
When compared with toroidal cores, they are designed to allow for easier helical winding, thus reducing overall cost, and easier mounting. Sized at 25.5
mm and 40 mm, or custom height, they come in the
company's Kool Mu, XFlux, and High Flux materials.
Magnetics also now offers LP shape powder cores,
pictured above, in size 36 x 24 mm, adding to existing
outder diameter sizes 23 mm, 25 mm, and 42 mm.
The planar design of LP cores helps to maximize
inductor efficiency and are available in 26 and 40
permeabilities.
The new nanocrystalline cores are designed for applications such as common mode chokes and currently
available in toroids or split cores from 5 mm to 145
mm.

Due to the high permeability of nanocrystalline cores,
chokes can be smaller in size and handle higher
current, notes the company. When compared to
ferrite cores, nanocrystalline cores provide a wider
operational temperature range and significantly
