Editor’s Choice GarrettCom, Inc. has released its new Magnum 10ETS Ethernet terminal server targeting large substation installations with large numbers of serial instruments. The Magnum 10ETS provides up to eight Ethernet ports or up to 32 serial ports for protection and SCADA devices and IRIG-B time coding. The 10ETS is an IEC 61850-compatible networking device with the hardening required for substation applications and the only dual hot-swappable power supply in the industry. It is the only terminal server with a built-in firewall. The Magnum 10ETS Terminal Server can support up to 36 ports. Ports can be configured in varying combinations with either a maximum of eight 10/100 copper or fiber Ethernet ports with multiple connector options (and up to 28 serial ports), or a maximum of 32 serial ports, with either DB-9 or RJ-45 connectors (and four Ethernet ports). Routing is available on all Ethernet ports, providing support for complex networks. As power utility networks grow more complex, the ability to synchronize geographically separated instruments throughout a power delivery system grows more critical. IRIG-B is the most prevalent version of the time code standards developed by Inter-Range Instrumentation Group, the standards body of the Range Commanders Council, and is used in protection systems in substations. The 10ETS Terminal Server uses Magnum MNS-DX network management software that contains the robust security features found in Magnum Ethernet switches and routers, as well as ModBus support for serial products. The MNS-DX firewall protection ensures that data from serial devices will be subjected to the same security management rules as data coming from the Next Generation Magnum Terminal Server Makes Integrating Devices into Smart Grid Initiatives Easier rest of the network, making it easier to achieve compliance with the more stringent NERC/CIP requirements anticipated in the future. Other features that complement the next-generation capabilities of these terminal servers include VLANs, SSL/SSH, Radius, TACACS+ and Ethernet routing. PRO-Cells deliver continuous power for mission critical energy applications without power grid dependencies and beyond the capabilities of typical wind and solar alternatives. They are well suited for remote metering devices, sensors and transmitters, and require no operator interaction or maintenance to keep them operational. The Solar Stik PRO-Cell features EFOY Pro smart fuel cell technology, and has been specially designed for the needs of the professional. All three fuel-cell models can be employed in any application where a 12 VDC or 24 VDC battery system is utilized. The PRO-Cell is offered in three models, with charging capacity ranging from 600 to 2,200 watt hours per day. Solar Stik PRO-Cells provide remote fully integrated power solutions. It operates with any Power Pak, and can be operated in conjunction with other power sources in hybrid configurations. PRO-Cells can be used as a primary method of providing power for small loads, but they can also be an effective means to mitigate against failure when a solar array or wind-generator is the primary means of producing power. When employed in hybrid systems, the fuel cell will only operate if other power sources such as wind and/or solar fail and battery voltage drops below a certain value. This allows the user to produce as much power from the environment as is possible, with the PRO-Cell as a back-up power supply during periods of clouds or calm winds.
