Security - Products & Services The Cedar River Water System was developed by the City of Seattle in 1895. Almost 100 percent owned by the city and under the management of Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), the watershed encompasses 90,638 acres of pristine forest land in the Cascade Mountains. The Cedar River Watershed along with the 12,500acre South Fork Tolt River Watershed supply drinking water to 1.4 million people in the greater Seattle area. After September 11th, 2011 the Federal Government required SPU to undertake a utility-wide assessment to identify critical assets. The assessment revealed that the protection in place on the watershed needed some improvement. “We needed to track and electronically document traffic in and out of our facilities and watershed areas,” said Darian Davis, SPU Security and Watershed Protection Manager. “The drinking water supply from the Cedar River is unfiltered so the watershed is completely closed to the public. No trespass of any kind is allowed. SPU was tasked with meeting Federal Critical CyberLock Secures Seattle Public Utilities Infrastructure Guidelines for municipal water supplies. With over 30 gate entrances on the Cedar River alone, this presented unique challenges.” After extensive research, SPU selected CyberLock to secure all the entrances to the watershed that could not be serviced with automated gates due to no available power and communication lines. In June, 2007, they proceeded to install CyberLock electronic padlocks on these remote watershed gates, storage units and utility sheds. Since the initial installation, SPU has expanded the CyberLock system to include the 12,500-acre Tolt River Watershed due to similar challenges. A strong reason for implementing the CyberLock system was to maintain their Limited Alternative Filtration status on the Cedar. “Being able to program each person’s electronic key to open specific locks that allow them to do their job is a real benefit. Also, the audit trail the locks and keys provide is a good investigative tool when there is an incident on watershed property,” said Davis. “CyberLock is an important part of Seattle Public Utility’s security plan-of-action that enables our watersheds to meet Federal Guidelines for securing critical infrastructure.” and playback capabilities along with dynamic scalability, the TeraStation family offers cost-effective video surveillance solutions. The Buffalo TeraStation centralizes and simplifies camera configuration. A user can add up to 20 RTSP enabled network IP-cameras per TeraStation, name the cameras, enable them and begin recording. The TeraStation supports more than 180 network IP-camera manufacturers and more than 1,000 camera models. The Buffalo TeraStation also supports intelligence in the camera, such as Axis network IP-cameras. Utilizing Axis’ embedded motion detection functionality, the Buffalo TeraStation can search and play back surveillance video from any point-in-time based on the motion detection levels within the video for more relevant searching. Once network IP-cameras are added to the system and configured, they are ready for use by all other Buffalo TeraStations in the network for extended long-term video retention. RTSP camera support and centralized camera configuration significantly increases the overall ease-of-use and enables users to get a video surveillance system online and recording quickly. Pelco by Schneider Electric has introduced its BU series bullet cameras, C20 series box cameras and FD series fixed dome cameras. The trio of analog camera options is the latest addition to a lineup of Pelco video security solutions. The BU series, C20 series and FD series offer high-resolution color, wide dynamic range and day/night models that are typically reserved for more expensive video security systems. BU series integrated bullet cameras are designed for no-light and low-light applications with options for longand short-range infrared illumination between 15 and 40 meters. The FD series also offers models equipped with supplemental infrared illumination for difficult lighting conditions. Select models of C20, BU and FD cameras include technologies such as digital signal processing, backlight compensation, digital noise reduction, privacy zones, motion detection and adaptive tone reproduction to compensate for gradation of subjects. Pelco Releases New Lineup of Bullet, Box and Fixed Dome Video Security Cameras SoleraTec LLC has been selected by Buffalo Technology to embed SoleraTec’s Phoenix RSM video surveillance management software onto the new Buffalo TeraStation 5000 series of network storage solutions. The TeraStation 5000 series offers an array of business class features including this professional-grade, cost-effective, scalable video surveillance management functionality. The Buffalo TeraStation 5000 series NAS units now become a fullfeatured network video recorder (NVR) ready to control up to 20 network IP video surveillance cameras with simultaneous live-view and recording capabilities on a single TeraStation NAS device. The solution, targeted for perimeter protection, leverages PureTech’s video analytic capabilities by providing the ability to detect and display the target’s location on a map-enabled, geospatial PSIM. The solution enables a Sarix TI camera the ability to classify objects by type (human, vehicle, watercraft), track by real size and/or speed and determine the object’s latitude and longitude. The integration focused on Sarix TI thermal imaging cameras and Sarix IE series (Megapixel high performance domes), however, the integration is applicable to the other models within the Pelco product range including the entire Sarix family, Spectra domes and Esprit Integrated pan/tilt camera systems. PureTech’s intelligent video solution can be deployed as a server-based or an edge device solution and customers can utilize any of the available video streams from the cameras, including H.264. Deployment of the resulting integration can utilize PureActiv’s map based command and control or the customer’s existing PSIM/video management system.
