M2M Solutions - Produts & Services Telit Wireless Solutions has introduced a Mini PCI Express card with an embedded M2M module designed for industrial applications. Telit’s HE910-based Mini-PCIe adapter card enables 3G cellular data, voice and video communication for embedded PCs in a variety of commercial and industrial applications, including ATMs, kiosks, digital signage, surveillance, fleet management and other applications benefitting from wireless data connection, monitoring and control. “Cellular Mini PCI Express cards have previously been a niche market but we expect it to grow significantly with the increase of M2M applications and the need for both high-performance motherboards and cellular connectivity for remote, off-site solutions,” said Dominikus Hierl, chief marketing officer, Telit Wireless Solutions. Designed for M2M applications requiring high bandwidth and worldwide coverage, the HE910 with Mini PCIe Adapter combines radio access technology UMTS/HSPA+ with backward compatibility to GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks. It includes HSDPA 21.0 Mbps (Cat 14), HSUPA 5.7 Mbps (Cat 6), embedded TCP/IP protocol stack and custom Telit AT commands. Support for USB and RIL drivers for Windows and Linux environments is available. Customers can also choose to add integrated high sensitivity A-GPS functionality. The “plug-and-play” Mini PCI Express card slot and 52-pin card edge connector also allow application developers to integrate M2M capabilities into their solutions. Telit Releases Mini PCI Express Card With Wireless M2M Capabilities Berkeley Varitronics Systems, Inc. (BVS) has released Squid-PRO supporting all major wireless carriers including Verizon’s EVDO standard. Squid-PRO 3G cell tower tester is a handheld receiver aimed at the wireless M2M installation market. The Squid-PRO provides installers a real time display of local 3G carriers’ base stations and their respective signal strength or RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator). Squid-PRO identifies RSSI, carrier network and type of 3G technology (UMTS, CDMA, GSM and GPRS) for all four major US carriers. This data provides installers with enough information to make installation site decisions as well as optimal antenna placement all in an effort to choose the best mobile carrier for their particular site. Squid-PRO contains multiple radios and multi-band antennae for several US network carriers. No SIM activation or monthly contracts are required. Instead of installers juggling between several cell phones to guesstimate the best coverage for their M2M site, a single Squid-PRO can provide all the data needed to make installation site location decisions and optimizations. In addition, Squid-PRO supports up to three simultaneous external antenna (SMA) connections allowing installers to optimize antenna placement. Squid-PRO has an ultra-crisp and bright OLED display and integrated GPS receiver for time-stamped and geo-located measurements for further analysis. The Squid-PRO assists installer issues faced by M2M contractors working with ATMs, electric vehicle charging stations, utility metering, vending machines and kiosks of all types. The device’s simple operation and precision signal strength measurements allow anyone to pick the best carrier and antenna placement at a given location. Berkeley Varitronics Systems’ M2M Cell Tower Tester Supports Verizon’s EVDO Standard Cinterion has released the AGS2, a minature surface mount automotive M2M module providing global voice and data communications for vehicle telematics. The module is Cinterion’s first offering as an Associate Partner in the Intel Intelligent Systems Alliance program, which provides OEMs and developers with the advanced hardware, software, firmware, tools and systems integration support needed to bring leading-edge technology solutions to market faster. Cinterion’s tiny AGS2 Land Grid Array (LGA) surface mount module was designed for vehicle telematics such as fleet management solutions, car alarms and eCall applications. The module features a secure Internet protocol connection, digital audio and voice technology with voice prompts, which can be crucial during emergencies. Quad-band capability helps eliminate coverage disruptions, providing communications even when roaming between counties and across different carrier networks. The module’s jamming detection feature strengthens theft prevention while its low power consumption helps extend vehicle battery life. AGS2’s rugged design, extended temperature range and shielding enable reliability in extreme automotive conditions. “Our new AGS2 module was developed in close collaboration with Intel to take advantage of their latest chipset and to ensure our product roadmaps are in sync,” said Norbert Muhrer, CEO, Cinterion. “By combining Cinterion’s M2M expertise with early access to Intel’s most advanced platforms, we are able to quickly launch first-to-market modules that give our customers a competitive advantage in their next generation solutions.” Cinterion Introduces Minature Surface Mount Automotive Module u-blox’ has had its LISAU200 UMTS/HSPA modem tested by Telstra. The product has been certified as being Telstra Mobile Network compatible. The certification allows customers to design in the LISA-U200 modem into M2M devices operating over Telstra’s 3G network in Australia. The LISA-U200 is a small wireless 3G module that delivers high data-rates (5.76 Mb/s uplink and 7.2 Mb/s downlink) with voice and data capabilities. It is compatible with global 3G networks intended for consumer, automotive and industrial applications. For telematics applications such as fleet and asset management, the module provides integration with u-blox GPS, GLONASS and QZSS receivers. LISA modules come in SMT form-factor and have a small footprint (22.4 by 33.2 by 2.6 mm), allowing easy mounting on any application board. The LISA form factor enables easy manufacturing, as well as simple migration from u blox’ GSM/GPRS modules. Support for A-GPS and u-blox’ unique CellLocate positioning technology is embedded to facilitate advanced telematics applications including indoor positioning. Features include compatibility with quad-band GPRS/EDGE, low power (idle mode less than 1.5 mA) and operating temperature -40°C to 85°C. RIL software for Android and Embedded Windows is available free of charge. LISA-U200 modules are manufactured in ISO/TS 16949 certified sites and are fully qualified according to ISO 16750 - Environmental conditions and electrical testing for electrical and electronic equipment for road vehicles to provide high durability and reliability. u-blox’ LISA 3G Module Certified as Telstra Mobile Network Compatible 12 www.RemoteMagazine.com http://www.RemoteMagazine.com
