2014 Venezia Giulia Ograde (Best Buy) ^
Sandi Skerk made the most of a cool and
rainy vintage, delivering a gorgeous Ograde
in 2014. It smells like an early-morning
flower market in its scents of orange blossoms, roses and white hydrangeas. A blend
of vitovska, malvasia, sauvignon blanc and
pinot grigio, the wine unfolds with a range of
fresh flavors, from white peach and Rainier
cherries to litchi and tangerine. Skerk keeps
the grape skins in contact with the juice for
ten days, which gives the wine a delicate
rose-gold hue and a peach-skin texture that
lends firmness without bitterness. A thread
of salinity and cool acidity adds tension to
the wine's refreshing character. § T. Edward

2009 Venezia Giulia Oslavje ^ A blend of
chardonnay, pinot grigio and sauvignon
blanc macerated on the skins for several
months and then aged four years in oak
casks, this is a copper-hued wine with scents
of cider and pickled mushrooms. Those volatile scents fade with exposure to air, and the
wine takes on flavors of stewed peach and
baked apple along with wild herbs and salted
almonds. It's a wine to contemplate over several days, alongside olives, nuts and dried

malvasia and riesling with 15 percent friulano, the 2015 Flors di Uis shows the best
