US NEW RELEASES
velvet-rich and delicious, like mulberries
fresh off the tree. For all its richness, it feels
remarkably pristine and bright-a satisfying
pinot noir that's pure Russian River.

$55

2015 Santa Maria Valley Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir ^ This is a powerful, intense
2015, with a meaty note of dried beef and a
ripe, fruity hit of black plum. It's not exactly
light on its feet but it's satisfying and very
comfortable, like a vintage leather coat. The
wine has a warm, smoky savor and a mineral
fortitude suited to pork. (165 cases)
507971

91 | Hirsch

$85

2014 Fort Ross-Seaview Block 8 Pinot
Noir ^ This small block of reddish, iron-rich
soil, planted mostly to a Pommard selection in 1993, grew the leanest and lightest
of Hirsch's 2014s. It's wispy and clean, with
mouthwatering acidity, a silky structure and
lasting rose-petal spice-delicate enough for
fish. (345 cases)
508095

507672

91 | Williams Selyem

$39

2015 Sonoma County Thirty-Fifth Anniversary Pinot Noir ^ The 2015 harvest was
the earliest on record in Williams Selyem's
35 years in business, but despite harvesting in the August warmth, their Sonoma
County appellation wine seems to capture
the abundance of summer fruit at a cool,
dewy moment. This year's blend comes from
five vineyards, from Flax, in the heart of the
Middle Reach, to Terra de Promissio, on a
cool, windy hill above Petaluma. It's a velvety
pinot noir saturated with simple but lovely
fruit flavor, lifting in the end on a high-toned
violet aroma.
508011

90 | Arista

$55

2014 Carneros Napa Valley Primo's Hill
Pinot Noir ^ Tight raspberry scents lead into
this spicy pinot noir. It's bright and cool, with
pink-grapefruit pithiness and some tomatoleaf character to the tannins, making them
feel a little tough. There's that spicy mace
character that runs through the fruit, suited
to braised pork. (125 cases)
450068

90 | Banshee Wines

$50

2015 Sonoma Coast Marine Layer Pinot
Noir ^ Lean and minty at first, this is an aciddriven pinot noir that needs a splash in
a decanter right now to bring out its rich
blackberry and rose-petal notes. It's simple
and tart, but refreshing, ready to drink with
salmon. (150 cases)
507965

$70

90 | Deovlet

$40

$40

2015 Sonoma Coast Laguna Pinot Noir ^
Clean and racy, this carries high-toned scents
of rose hips and Moroccan mint tea on a line
of tart, cranberry-red fruit. It's a refreshing
wine; drink it cool with roast chicken. (1,150
cases)
508037

91 | Poseidon Vineyard

91 | Red Car

2014 Sonoma Coast Heaven & Earth Pinot
Noir ^ This pinot noir comes from Bohemian
Station Vineyard, just north of Occidental.
It's powerfully ripe, with a concentrated
roasted-cherry flavor that's almost meaty, yet
a bit of air brings out its energetic, coastal

90 | Drew

$50

90 | Kutch

$52

90 | Siduri

$35

2015 Mendocino Ridge Signal Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir ^ This is so savory it feels
almost fierce, its mint-and-peppercorn spice
and chewy, gripping structure bringing to
mind coastal syrah as much as pinot noir.
Its rough-and-tumble persistence makes it a
fit for lamb. (120 cases)
507347
2015 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir ^
Sappy, plummy and bright, this captures the
warmth and concentrated purple fruit of the
Santa Lucia Highlands without overreaching.
There's a floral buzz and earthy richness at
the end, and those savory aspects feel satisfying as they play against the fruit's sunny
sweetness. (2,121 cases)

$75

2014 Mendocino Ridge Perli Vineyard
Pinot Noir ^ There's a lot of oak on this wine,
reading as an espresso scent; underneath, the
fruit is both fresh and rich, speaking to the
cooling ocean breezes that wash over Mendocino Ridge, as well as the region's abundant sunlight. There's some warmth from
alcohol in the end, which gives the wine's redcherry flavor a peppery lift without blowing
it out of the water. Give this a year or two of
age before opening it. (258 cases)
507884

91 | Lioco

some tannic grip in the end that will loosen
up with squab. (360 cases)
507403
2015 Anderson Valley Fashauer Vineyards
Pinot Noir ^ As soft as velvet, this comes from
a hillside vineyard on the western rim of
Anderson Valley. It's sunny and clean, with a
simple red-cherry flavor, a hint of floral notes
and enough brightness to carry its lush fruit
gracefully. (50 cases)
449705

$60

2015 Sonoma Coast Tina Marie Vineyard
Pinot Noir ^ This vineyard in Green Valley tends to grow fruit that's instantly recognizable: dark and plump yet not heavy,
with a polished freshness and a clean blackraspberry aroma. This bottling adds some
herbal complexity that one taster compared
to green tomato skin. It's a delicious, satiny
pinot noir to drink in its youth. (200 cases)

side. Decant it to coax out its firm spice
notes, brighter cranberry flavor and hints of
sea spray.

2015 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir ^
Drawn from the Santa Maria Valley and
Santa Rita Hills sites that Ryan Deovlet also
bottles as vineyard designates, this is tart and
spicy, with an herb-infused red-cherry tone-
a simple but mouthwatering pinot noir with

86 | Rickshaw

$15

2015 Russian River Valley Thirty-Fifth
Anniversary Pinot Noir ^ Williams Selyem's
multi-vineyard Russian River blend is in fine
form in 2015, entering on a dark-roast coffee
scent of new oak, then finding its footing in
a juicy ripe plum flavor that feels hearty and
welcoming, expanding in the end toward a
lifted scent of lavender.
507886
2015 California Pinot Noir (Best Buy) ^ Tart
and simple, with a direct red-cherry flavor,
this is an affordable and varietally correct
pinot noir for a weeknight roast chicken.
