GAMAY NOIR
507328

92 | Brick House

$34

2015 Ribbon Ridge Due East Gamay Noir ^
Light in tannins, mildly smoky, with a scent
of umeboshi plums and dark berry, this has
a lean, smoky edge that makes it scream for
food, like braised rabbit. (240 cases)

PINOT MEUNIER
508138

90 | Amalie Robert

$30

2015 Willamette Valley Pinot Meunier ^
Light in color and body, with a faint aroma
of olive and woodsmoke, this wine is fresh
and red fruited, a smoky, cherry-scented red
for roast chicken. (145 cases)

PINOT NOIR

shallow soils yield some of the Willamette
Valley's most structured wines, so it's no
surprise this wine isn't giving up much now.
It may be years from its peak, but you can
already admire the structure and the pronounced minerality it's showing, and the flavors that are focused on fruit skin, marked by
stem spice that lends a vinous, savory edge.
Everything's here for a long life. (250 cases)
507592

93 | Cristom

93 | Fullerton

450014

94 | Walter Scott

$50

2015 Eola-Amity Hills Clos des Oiseaux
Pinot Noir ^ From a small, LIVE-certified,
southeast-facing vineyard planted in 2000
and 2002, this pinot is generous when first
poured, and then, with air, seems to unfurl
like a sail, with a pleasing tension between
the tea-like stem spice and the bright Morello
cherry flavors. The whole-cluster treatment
gives the wine some volume and breadth,
but acidity envelops the finish and makes the
wine mouthwatering, seductive and lasting.
It compels you to the next sip. (275 cases)
508142

93 | Amalie Robert

$30

2012 Willamette Valley The Uncarved
Block Pinot Noir (Best Buy) ^ This wine has
benefited from its extended time in bottle,
with developed flavors gracefully falling into
place. The aromas are leafy and herbal, hinting at a chlorophyll note, like lovage or celery
leaf, adorning spiced cherry scents. The flavors are just as complex, with elements of puerh tea and mushrooms contributing an elegant umami savor. A well-priced opportunity
to jump on some wine with age. (1,000 cases)
507843

93 | Bergström

$60

2015 Eola-Amity Hills Temperance Hill
Vineyard Pinot Noir ^ Temperance Hill's

$50

2014 Eola-Amity Hills Estate Pinot Noir ^
Cristom's estate blend is firm and concentrated, laced with whole-cluster spice notes
of rye, smoke, olive and caraway. The spice
adorns dark fruit that practically bristles with
potential energy, as if all the wind that passed
over the estate is somehow stored in the bottle. It's lean and savory, umami all the way,
with an inky depth that suggests great aging
potential. (1,620 cases)
507833
$45

2015 Willamette Valley Croft Vineyard
Pinot Noir ^ From an older vineyard south of
the Eola Hills, this succulent red is bright,
lifted, voluptuous and downright joyous,
with savory scents of sassafras and smoked
tea accenting bright red cherry. That interplay of savory notes and ripe fruit suggests a
percentage of whole clusters in the fermentation (about 25 percent), as does the texture,
which is lively, with a pleasing amaro bitterness on the finish. (200 cases)
507359

93 | Maysara

$36

2013 McMinnville Cyrus Momtazi Vineyard Pinot Noir ^ Momtazi Vineyard has been
farmed under biodynamics since 2005, and
the composure in this wine may come from
that vigilant, attentive agricultural practice.
This pinot's savory scents of olive, smoke,
and sourdough strike a balance with dark
cherry fruit. The flavors are darker still, but
with an umami frame of spice-bread crust
and pekoe tea-that keeps the wine compelling, lasting and complex. (966 cases)

compositions. Wines from that soil type are
generally known for their depth of flavor, but
with its scents of wild strawberry and wild
cherry, and a hint of cranberry, this wine is a
study in briskness and lift. It's crunchy and
bright, with a touch of wood to keep it on
point. It has the bones and the staying power
to age gracefully, and then to pair with duck.
(750 cases)
507845

91 | Bergström

$70

91 | Bergström

$70

2015 Ribbon Ridge Le Pré du Col Vineyard Pinot Noir ^ A dark, plush wine, this
leads with broad cherry accents and notes
of cinnamon and graham-cracker crust. It's
vibrant and generous, with palate-staining
red fruit and a finish of velvety tannins. A
sexy pinot, for pork loin. (250 cases)
507849
2015 Chehalem Mountains Silice Pinot
Noir ^ In its youth, this wine is a patchwork
of succulent cherry flavors and sumptuous
cinnamon-oak notes. The fruit feels plush,
still seeking refinement, the oak generous
and carrying the wine at present. Serve with
smoked trout. (500 cases)

SYRAH
508143

91 | Amalie Robert

$100

2011 Willamette Valley Top Barrel Syrah ^
In a thrilling cool-climate experiment, the
team at Amalie Robert planted syrah and
viognier on a single acre in a cool vineyard west of Salem, drawing from the four
clones that Marcel Guigal recommended on
a visit to Oregon. This wine barely crosses
the threshold of 12 percent alcohol, and in
most respects would be thought of as backward. But the aromas-carob, smoke and
olive-are resolved and mature, the flavors
composed and quiet, dark red fruits marked
by charry, mature tannins. Decant it to serve
with lamb. (25 cases)
507801

91 | Spring Valley Vineyard $50

2014 Walla Walla Valley Nina Lee Syrah ^
This estate-grown syrah is powerfully smoky
and redolent of tanbark. It has plenty of dark,
concentrated fruit and a generous, full-bodied texture that comes together in a focused
and savory finish. The wine's tannins and
structure place it with barbecue. (1,676 cases)

WASHINGTON SPARK LI NG

507453

92 | Chapter 24 Vineyards

507761
$60

2015 Willamette Valley The Flood Pinot
Noir ^ The Flood is Chapter 24's assemblage
of vineyard sources with sedimentary soil

86 | 14 Hands

$15

NV Columbia Valley Brut (Best Buy) ^
Scents of pineapple and crisp apple fill this
lush, plump sparkler. Chill it for a party.
