2018 Costières de Nîmes Château des
Sources (Best Buy) ^ A blend of marsanne
and roussanne, this is rich and fleshy, with
sweet apple flavor. The texture feels comforting, ready to wrap around roasted monkfish.

$33

2019 Côtes de Provence Prestige Rosé
Minuty's most well-known rosé, this is a
blend from two estate vineyards, one near
the sea and the other inland, near the Massif des Maures. A blend of grenache with
cinsault, tibouren and syrah, it feels vibrant
and precise, the flavors of cherry and lime
refreshed by oceanic salinity. -T.Q.T. ¤ Vintus,

2019 Costières de Nîmes Tradition de
Campuget Rosé (Best Buy) ^ Mostly syrah,
with 30 percent grenache, this is sweet and
simple, with a minty streak lifting the candied strawberry flavors. -T.Q.T. ¤ Dreyfus,

2017 Costières de Nîmes La Bolida ^ Exemplary mourvèdre, this is chewy and dark,
with leathery tannins wrapping around the
black-raspberry flavors. Diane de Puymorin
sources it from her oldest mourvèdre vines,
around 90 years old, and blended this vintage
with ten percent grenache. The rich, plummy
center suggests this has plenty of stuffing to
last well in the cellar, but it's delicious now,
decanted, with roast beef. -T.Q.T. ¤ Wine

$15

2018 Costières de Nîmes (Best Buy) ^  A
label from the Vignerons Propriétés Associés cooperative, this blend of syrah and
grenache (80/20) wins on its bright, clean,
precise flavors. There's no oak to get in the
way of syrah's violet scents and black-pepper spice, or to mask the cherry-juicy tang
of the grenache. The clarity allows the wine
to sing, vibrant and pure. -T.Q.T. ¤ Soilair

2015 Côtes du Brian Pic de Saint-Jean ^
Nicole and John Bojanowski took over an
abandoned winery at 1,000 feet in altitude
in St-Jean de Minervois in the early 2000s.
Now they farm 15 acres, much of it in oldvine carignan and grenache gris, but they
also planted a little syrah and mourvèdre, as
well as a plot of cabernet sauvignon in Pic de
Saint-Jean, the highest vineyard in St-Jean de
Minervois. The cabernet had been intended
for blending, but in 2015, Nicole thought the
grapes were too good to blend away, so they
bottled it alone, under the Côtes du Brian
IGP. Aged for two years in French oak demimuids and further mellowed in bottle, it's
cool and earthy, with notes of tea and dried
leaves surrounding a center of still-fresh redcurrant fruit. It lasts on that freshness, feeling steadfast, suggesting that it has plenty
more life ahead of it. -T.Q.T. ¤ Chartrand

2018 Côtes du Brian Sous les Cailloux des
Grillons ^ A singer, John Bojanowski likes
to give his wines fanciful names; this one
means "under the pebbles are the crickets."
The blend is just as playful, a combination
of syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cinsault, carignan, terret noir, counoise, mourvèdre and
grenache. It's an energetic red, refreshing
and fun, with notes of pine and wild herbs
lifting the sweet, tangy red-cherry fruit.

2015 Languedoc Grés de Montpellier
Légendes ^ The Nivollets founded this winery in Grés de Montpellier in 1997, six years
before the region was recognized with an
AOC. Bounded by Pic St-Loup to the north
and the Mediterranean to the south, with the
Vidourle valley to the east and Hérault to
the west, it's a breezy, dry climate that presents few challenges to the family's organic
and biodynamic farming practice. This bottling shows off the syrah they grow, blended
with grenache and aged three years in new
oak barrels. The wood influence is overt for
now, but the fruit is fresh and vivacious, with
notes of smoke, spice and dried flowers adding finesse. Built for the long haul, this needs
several years in the cellar to show its best.

2014 Languedoc Grés de Montpellier
Plénitude ^ While Légendes (recommended
here) favors syrah, Plénitude focuses on grenache. It lives up to its name in its plentiful
fruit, bright and saturated with pomegranate
flavor. Oak adds spice and cedar-box scents,
as well as a touch of caramel that suggests
pairing this with grilled meats. -T.Q.T. ¤ Cape

2016 Pfalz Jesuitengarten Riesling
Trocken ^ Markus Spindler has worked with
his father, Hans, since finishing his studies at Germany's famous oenology school,
Geisenheim, in 2007, and recently took over
the estate. They farm nearly 50 acres on the
hillsides in and around Forst, including a
patch of Jesuitengarten, a warm site with
basalt soils. The parcel turned out a smoky,
peppery riesling in 2016. Under the smoke,
notes of pithy lemon and tropical fruit come
together, firm and austere. Give this a decant
before serving with something on the rich
side, like meaty fish in a mushroom cream
sauce. -T.Q.T. ¤ Schatzi Wines, NY

2016 Pfalz Ungeheuer Riesling Trocken ^
This wine, from a small parcel of vines in a
steep limestone section of the Ungeheuer
vineyard, lives up to its name with its size.
(Ungeheuer means "monster.") It's earthy
and ripe, with the sweet-savory tones of
papaya and guava. A distinct saline note and
tangy acidity channel the fruit into a long,
dry finish, and promise that this will age well.

2018 Pfalz QbA Riesling (Best Buy) ^ This

minerality. It's brisk and refreshing, ideal for
