Swedish Microwave's New
Professional LNB Platform

tarting with the new Ka Multiband
Professional LNB family, Swedish
Microwave is introducing a new LNB platform.
The new platform has been designed with
future developments in satcom in mind and
includes multiple sensors and means to
communicate with their LNBs, making them
ideally suited for the next generation of KaBand SatCom terminals.
Thomas Lindell, Swedish Microwave AB's
Sales & Marketing Director, describes the
Professional LNB as a "gamechanger",
as "future terminals will likely require
reconfiguring the Tx and Rx frequencies in the
field to enable users to adapt their terminals
on-the-fly as they change from one satellite
constellation to another."
As can be expected in this age of IoT,
LNB status and performance monitoring
is also now possible, including status
from the numerous LNB sensors, such as
supply voltage, input stage (LNA) current,
temperature and RF power monitoring. An
optional "open collector" alarm output will
provide a sum-alarm feature for LNB fault
based on sensor readings and factory defined
limits, but can easily be customized as
required. The full Ka-band 17.2 - 22.3 GHz
Multiband LNB can be configured to receive
from 2 to 8 Ka LOs/sub-bands depending on
the required input Rx frequency range and any
receiver input limitations. It is also capable of
switching LOs/sub-bands in a fraction of a
second when used, for example, to monitor
the entire Ka-band.
Thomas Lindell adds that the company
is "building on its vast experience in the
professional LNB market, and the LNBs are
backed by a three-year warranty, and bear

the SMW trademark qualities, including
compact size and low weight; the large -40 to
+80°C temperature range; low noise figure;
excellent VSWR; and dynamic range. Classleading image rejection for all bands and
excellent phase noise make these LNBs ideal
for the most demanding, high throughput
applications."
The new, very flexible platform will also be
incorporated in the C-, X- and Ku-band LNBs
from SMW in the future.
Swedish Microwave was established in
1986 by four RF Engineers with their roots
in the Satellite TV Industry. Today, it is the
most senior LNB manufacturer in Europe, still
privately held and a leading force in satellite
communication.

While Professional LNBs are the core
product, the scope of delivery also includes
LNAs, BDCs, TLTs and they have recently
enjoyed success with RF-over-Fiber systems
for the satcom industry.

Paradigm's PIM Integrates
with the UHP-200 Modem

C

o-operation between Paradigm and UHP
is being demonstrated by the integration
of the UHP-200 modem into Paradigm's fieldproven PIM®.
The PIM is an easy-to-use, environmentally
rugged, terminal controller which enables
mobile satellite terminals to be pointed and
optimized quickly by non-technical users.
