Broadcast Lighting Update cont'd...
Lumos, a brand produced in Korea
by DM Lite, recently introduced the
Lumos 500, Lumos 700, and Trip
series. The Lumos 500 is a range of
portable LED lights that can be used
either in the studio or on location. The
500F is available in either daylight
or tungsten, while the 500MK offers
variable colour temperature. CRIs
range from Daylight 90 Ra to Tungsten
97 Ra. Other features include dimming
capability with minimal colour shift,
120 watts power draw with comparable
light output to an 800 watt tungsten,
and more than 30,000 hour rated
lamp life. It measures 20 x12.9 x 3.2"
and weighs 17.6 lbs.
The Lumos 700 is a studio light
produced in two versions: 700F
and 700 MK. The 700F is available
in tungsten and daylight models,
while the 700MK is bi-colour, with
a full adjustable range anywhere
from tungsten to daylight. The Trip
Series offers strobe and continuous
lighting for DSLR cameras. Features
include dimming, adjustable colour
temperatures and compatibility with
Sony's V Series battery.

Hive Lighting's Wasp Plasma Par

LupoLight offers a variety of LED
panel video production studio lights
ranging from the single-colour Lupoled
350 to the dual colour Lupoled 1120.
Also available are the Starlight,
Quadrilight, Superlight and Striplight
studio ﬂuorescents, in 3,200 or 5,400
Kelvin colour temperature, plus DMX
control desks handling 12/24 of 24.48
channels.
Lupolux, based in Italy, produces
a range of ﬂicker-free HMI and LED
lights in carbon-ﬁbre housings. This
includes the 190 x 160 x 180 millimetre
Dayled 650 50 watt and 210 x 260 x
230 millimetre Dayled 1000 90 watt
dimmable LED Fresnel heads. Both
are available with 3,200 or 5,600
Kelvin colour temperature and can be
powered from a 14 volt direct current
source or 90 to 240 volt mains.

Nila's Varsa 75 watt LED light is
intended as a replacement for a 400
watt HMI or a 600 watt tungsten
ﬁxture. It is the ﬁrst light in the Nila
line that can accept power direct
from a 10-18 volt battery. Available
in daylight or tungsten colour
temperatures, it is designed to provide
fully stable colour reproduction
through its full range of output
brightness. Features include DMX
control and an integral Chimera
mount.
PAG's Paglight is a three-in-one oncamera interview light. Operating from
12 to 14.8 volt direct current, it can be
ﬁtted with a LED head delivering 900
lux of illumination at two metres and
consumes 11 watts. The light can be
focused from spot to ﬂood. The lamp
can be replaced with HMI or halogen
modules.
Photon Beard's Square One is
a rectangular 64 watt soft light
incorporating eight 12 inch x 5/8 inch
diameter ﬂuorescent tubes. It can be
operated from a detachable power
supply or optional V mount battery
pack which will accept two V mount
batteries. The Square One is dimmable
via rotary control and comes with a set
of Osram tubes balanced to tungsten
or daylight colour temperature. The
detachable stirrup has a 16 millimetre
socket for mounting in reduced
space locations such as car interiors.
Also included are removable barn
doors which can be used to house
honeycomb grids, diffusions panels
and colour ﬁlter gel.
Rotolight's
Anova
EcoFlood
Version 2 bi-colour LED and Anova
Solo single colour ﬂoodlight are
available in daylight or tungsten colour
temperature with a 110 degree beam
angle soft output or 50 degree beam.
Intensity is just under 6,000 lux at 90
centimetres. Each Anova is ﬂicker free
and allows DMX or wireless control via
the Rotolight Magic Eye HD app for
iPhone or iPad.

Softy Lite's is a relatively new
company with, so far, one product.
Also named 'Softy Lite'., this is a 230 x
235 x 80 mm 1 kg LED luminaire which
can be used free standing on its side
or back, in a car or on a bookshelf.
It comes with standard professional
light ﬁttings so can be used on all ﬁlm
industry lighting gear, stands, clamps,
turtles etc. It is daylight balanced and
easily ﬁltered to tungsten with regular
gels. Each Softy Lite has eight panels
of 48 LEDs, daylight balanced and
wired for 12 volts in banks of three.
The LED panels can be switched
in any combination with just four
switches. In photographic stops,
each switch halves or doubles light
output giving total ﬂexibility. Power
requirement is 12 volts DC from a
battery or optional mains adapter via
a standard universal 2.1 mm power
socket.
Power consumption is 60 watts. The
light is available as a single, three
or four lamp kit, each complete with
stirrup, stand, diffuser, snoot and
egg crate for each light. Mains power
supply sold separately, along with
other accessories.
Sumolight's SUMO100 is an LED
ﬁlm and photography production light
which can function independently,
as a master controller for additional
Sumolights via integrated DMX/RDM,
or as a slave using a DMX console or
another Sumolight. Intensity and (for
bi-colour models) colour temperature
can be controlled. The light works
with the provided power supply or any
suitable battery with a voltage range
of 12-48 VDC, such as V-Mount and
Gold Mount batteries.

The Softy Lite has eight panels of 48 LEDs

the Vidnel 100 watt LED Fresnel
ﬁxture. This provides a strong
directional beam of adjustable light
with even coverage at 3,200 or 5,600
Kelvin and allows ﬂicker-free dimming
without colour shift.
Visiolight's Zoom 6 ﬂicker-free LED
head is designed to create a focusable
light beam which can be fully dimmed
with no shift in colour temperature.
The light beam is focusable from 15
to 60 degrees. The head measures 18
x 6.5 x 6.5 centimetres (LWH), weighs
190 grammes and consumes 6 watts
from a battery or mains source.
Zylight's F8 LED Fresnel is
ruggedised for mobile use. It has a
colour rendering index of 97+ and
features shadow beam shaping
through barn doors, continuous
focusing and a smooth light ﬁeld.
Additional features include wireless
and DMX control plus a water-resistant
IP54 rating. Available with 3,200 or
5,600 Kelvin colour temperature,
the Zylight F8 can be powered from a
mains adapter or a standard 14.4 volt
camera battery. Local control such as
dimming and focus are provided on the
rear of the lamp head. The yoke mount
allows easy panning and tilting for
quick focusing.

Analysing Spectral Power...
One
useful
operational
development in lighting is the
Television Lighting Consistency
Index (TLCI). Although not yet an
approved international standard,
this is recommended by the EBU
and is being used increasingly as a
reference.
The TLCI takes a measurement
of the spectral power distribution
of
a
luminaire,
using
a
spectroradiometer.
It
then
analyses performance in a
television context and awards
a single number value to the
luminaire on a scale from 0 to
100.
Unlike
the
CRI
(Colour
Rendering Index), where a score

of greater than 90 is widely regarded
as the minimum for television use,
TLCI scores are more spread out.

a variety of television and ﬁlm
industry lamps, the results of which
can be seen at the website of the
Guild of Television Cameramen. The
software may be downloaded from
the EBU website.
