ALEXA Mini
Joins Range

GBR: ARRI has announced the
ALEXA Mini camera at BVE.
According to ARRI, the ALEXA Mini
will eliminate the complications of
working with third-party cameras.
Equipped with a 4:3 sensor and
frame rates of 0.75 to 200 fps, the
ALEXA Mini records 4K UHD ProRes
or uncompressed ARRIRAW either
in-camera to CFast 2.0 cards or to
an external Codex recorder.
The camera boasts environmentally sealed electronics, a lightweight
carbon housing, and a solid titanium PL mount.

Dolby Audio
AirBox Boost

GBR: PlayBox Technology has
expanded the audio capabilities of
its AirBox with Dolby Digital Plus
and Dolby E.
PlayBox Technology's Don Ash
said: "AirBox with SurCode for
Dolby Digital Plus encoding and
decoding enables broadcasters
and playout facilities to deliver
cinema-style 5.1-channel surround
sound, while reliably and easily
maintaining high quality at more
efﬁcient bit rates."
Dolby E provides the ability to
distribute up to eight channels
of audio, plus metadata and
timecode, via the existing stereo
channels (AES/EBU).

Sennheiser Displays
Broadcast Range

GBR: Sennheiser UK showed
key products from its broadcast
ranges at BVE. Highlights included
Sennheiser's
ﬂagship
Digital
9000 Series wireless system, as
well as the full analogue wireless
2000, 3000, 5000 Series. Wired
microphones included the MKH
8000 series, MKE 600 shotgun,
Neumann models, and the Esfera
5.1 surround microphone system.
Studio monitoring highlights
included the Neumann KH 310,
KH 120 and KH 410 monitor
loudspeakers, and the HD 26 PRO
headphones and HMD Mk II Series
broadcast headsets.

Vualto Video
Solutions
GBR: Vualto demonstrated its
vuworkﬂow and vuplay solutions
for online video at BVE. Using
the vuworkﬂow toolset, Vualto is
able to deliver tailored live, VOD,
download and catch-up solutions.
Vualto showed a new set of
DRM-enabled player SDKs. These
include DASH, Silverlight, OSMF,
IOS and Android Player and are all
underpinned by a single API.
Vualto also showed THEOplayer
which uses HTML5 to play HLS
formatted content on any player
without the need for plug-ins.

Success For BVE 2015 Show
A

ccording to the show's organisers,
BVE 2015 enjoyed a successful
opening day with busy stands and
overﬂowing seminar theatres.
Visitors reﬂected the diversifying
nature
of
broadcasting
with
representatives from Arsenal Media
Group, BBC, BT, Channel 4, Deutsche
Bank, Endemol, Envy Post Production,
Network Rail, ITV, Specsavers and The
Farm Group in attendance.
Exhibitors were busy from the
minute the show opened, and
conﬁdence levels in the show were
reﬂected in the number of rebooked
stands, which is currently 25% ahead
of the same time last year.

supervising Sound Editor chatted

Sherlock Holmes.
In the run up to the

The BBC's Sherlock also got the
BVE treatment as BAFTA Craft award
winners Doug Sinclair, the owner and
co-founder of Bang Post Production,
and dubbing mixer Howard Bargroff
explored the audio technology and
techniques used on the hit drama.
Pete Lee, Sound Recordist and
Engineer (Bear Grylls: Escape from
Hell, Man vs. Wild), discussed 'The
challenges and solutions of extreme
shooting', while The Institute of
Professional Sound provided an
essential guide to good sound on a
budget.

IABM Shares Workﬂow Knowledge

T

he IABM marked its biggest ever
presence at BVE 2015 by holding a
series of business seminars.
A number of high proﬁle speakers,
including representatives from a
national soap opera and an English
Premier League Football team, led the
sessions.
Chaired by Director of Business
Development and Technology at IABM,
John Ive, the seminars were held backto-back on the opening day.
Coronation Street Manager of
Production David Williams led a
seminar on Lessons Learnt From 60
Years Of Workﬂows.
Attendees were also given an
exclusive insight into an English
Premier League Football Club by
John Dollin, Systems Manager, Media,

Arsenal Media Group who discussed his
experience of growing the club's media
output and the use of third-party
services.
On the workﬂow theme there was a
panel discussion, where the audience
were given the opportunity to discuss
Troubleshooting Workﬂow Challenges.
IABM hosted the Industry Update
Breakfast in the Broadcast Tech and
Workﬂow Theatre on the show's
second day. The session was led by
IABM CEO, Peter White who provided
up to date market intelligence and a
panel debate led by senior industry
leaders.
For the ﬁrst time, IABM hosted a
Members Pavilion, where exhibitors
from the membership took space in
each of six pods as part of a special

fully-inclusive package for the show.
This is in addition to the Member
Lounge, which provided members with
a quiet area to meet and work on the
exhibition ﬂoor.
