WTS - rebranded from C2S Systems
- reports a strong end to 2014 with a
dozen projects all completing before
Christmas.
"We delivered two large OB trucks
with uplink support vehicles, two
small OB vans and support vehicles,
six regional news studios and four
post-production/archive
systems,"
comments Ben Murphy, WTS' Sales
Director. "Geographically, we see
strong demand in Asia and EMEA,
predominantly for mid-size studio and
OB projects."
Capex funding remains the prevalent
model in these territories, while the
UK and Europe is increasingly moving
towards opex models. Wherever and
however they are backed, though,
it is IP and OTT that are the current
headline features.
"We're ﬁnding OTT factored in to

most new ﬁxed installations at some
level - from the simple option of a
transcode environment for supplying
packages to a third party distributor or
YouTube channel, up to full workﬂow
integration with packages such as Avid
Interplay Pulse, to help clients with
larger systems streamline and make
the most of the assets they create,"
adds Jonathan Lyth, WTS Systems
Manager.
He said hosted IP path solutions,
such as LTN Smart cloud, are opening
up new distribution and contribution
options using the commercial internet
structures, and these offer cost savings
compared to MPLS-type dedicated
systems.
"We're also being asked to place
an increased emphasis on providing
stable broadcast-quality interfaces
for consumer IP technology for
contribution," he continues. "Requests
for a gallery 'Skype PC' are now
as common as a traditional TBU
- this along with the ability to
bring in mobile content, from
the public, especially in the
news environment, is critical."

Indeed, Murphy sees the move to IT
only accelerating, driven in part by the
adoption of 4K. He predicts that names
associated with IT may well take a shot
at this market now that their products
are required to take productions to the
next level.
"We expect the take-up in 4K in
Europe and UK to increase, as it has
been doing in the US, especially in
the live production sector with lots of
new products to be announced at NAB,
while the transition to producing (if not
transmitting) in HD in Africa continues
and their digital migration program is
accelerating."
WTS' systems business is expanding
as a result. Last September, it doubled
the size of its Leeds-based systems
building facility in anticipation of the

orders already in the pipeline for 2015,
while Murphy reports that the AsiaPaciﬁc and African ofﬁces are also very
busy, while the new Paris ofﬁce has
already won contracts.
"There is a more budget-led
mentality throughout the industry than
previously," comments Lyth. "Clients
are better educated about equipment
speciﬁcations and are open to using
multiple vendors for their kit."
He says that systems integrators
must therefore offer more ﬂexibility
in terms of true integration capability
and access to supply channels to stay
competitive.
"The era of single-brand installations
appears to be behind us, making
projects more diverse both in terms of
pulling the best from the equipment's
feature
sets,
and
providing
streamlined solutions," says Lyth.

beating heart, concentrates around
a maximum of three PTZ camera's
with optional microphones. These

microphones are able to use "audio
follow video," thus switching on the
right microphone when the operator
switches the camera. This comes
in very handy with classes and
conferences.
Also present is the new NVP-20,
a network controlled media player
for easy media control. For other
digital content, like PowerPoint
presentations, there is an option to
incorporate a simple laptop with HDMI
output. The operator can operate
this workﬂow from large distances,
since the new SE-1200 uses a LAN
connection. The operator can control
the switcher with an on screen control
panel, using a laptop or a tablet.
The multiviewer is streamed to the
operator via a low-latency MJPEG
stream. Audio control is done by the
AM-100 mixer and the AD-100 audio
delay. Recording is done with the
newest Datavideo recorder, HRS-30.
This recorder works with fast and
reliable solid-state disks, and has a

handy director monitor built in.
Streaming the event or class is done
with ease with the NVS-20 streaming
encoder, that streams directly to
YouTube or other content delivery
networks.
Of course, Datavideo still serves
the more demanding clients with
the mobile studio solution HS-2800.
This suitcase switcher is capable of
switching up to 12 channels, and has
built-in multiviewer and talkback.

can be difﬁcult and complicated. Most
of the time, productions don't even
need all the different options that this
equipment has to offer. So, Datavideo

virtual studio solution.
