TVT Supports VoD
BBC World News

JAP / GBR: TVT, a leading independent media services and postproduction house, has announced
a deal to provide BBC World News
Video on Demand (VoD) content to
Hulu Japan, a popular VoD service
offering users more than 13,000
assets available on more than 90
million devices. The agreement follows a long-standing relationship
with the channel, where TVT has
assisted in the delivery of regional
Japanese content for 21 years.
Providing a complete media management service, TVT is currently
responsible for subtitling and
dubbing documentary and current
affairs programmes as well as providing a closed caption service for
hard of hearing viewers.
As one of only a handful of Western
media companies with established
operations in Tokyo, TVT also runs
a daily, real-time news translation
service for the channel, operating
18 hours a day with teams based in
both London and Tokyo.

Pico Digital Acquires
IDC Broadcast Assets

USA: Pico Digital is to acquire the
broadcast products business of
International Datacasting Corporation (IDC). The acquisition includes
IDC's product portfolio, customers,
and supplier relationships.
Pico Digital CEO Ian Lerner said:
"We are very excited to add IDC's
product portfolio to our line-up
of market leading solutions. We
are committed to building on our
combined portfolio to create the
most compelling and comprehensive offering for both current and
new customers." The combined
business will benefit from an expanded global footprint, including
offices in the US, Canada, Mexico,
Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, Taiwan, Japan and the Netherlands, as
well as more than 500 customers.
Pico Digital say that following the
acquisition, the majority of IDC's
employees are expected to join the
company.

Ericsson Powers
Boxing Show

SWE / USA: Ericsson provided
an additional level of support for
PSSI Global Services, LLC (also dba
Strategic Television) and its on-site
satellite truck content delivery of
the recent boxing match between
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The installation comprised
13 PSSI fully operational satellite
trucks, which were equipped with
Ericsson's AVP 3000 Voyager Video
Processors and RX8200 Advanced
Modular Receivers.
Ericsson also provided a team of
satellite production support engineers to assist with the installation
of equipment.

SIM Group Expands East
Coast Services

expansion of its services into New
York to provide dailies and off-line, and
finishing.
Brooklyn facility Bling Digital -
which currently houses a DaVinci
Resolve colour bay, Avid edit bays
and Colorfront dailies solutions - has
already provided work on shows
including Mr. Robot, Forever, American
Odyssey, Season 3 of The Following
and several pilots.

Poldark Composited In Fusion Studio
B

lackmagic Design has announced
that Poldark, the hit television
drama by production company
Mammoth Screen features visual
effects production by Lexhag Ltd,
including lavish set extensions and 3D
matte painting, which were composted
in Fusion Studio 7.

The eight-part series, based on
Winston Graham's first two Poldark
novels, was adapted by Debbie
Horsfield and directed by Edward
Bazalgette and Will McGregor.
VFX for the series were supervised
by Alexis Haggar who was involved
in the series from pre-production,
working
closely
Mammoth Screen's
series
Poldark alongside
production designer
Catrin Meredydd as
well as the two block
directors and both
block directors of
photography.
Establishing an 18th
century mining world
was an extensive

task. All of the exterior mine shots
were filmed on location in Cornwall,
England, in and around the remaining
mines that still stand.
"All of the major set extensions
were started with a LiDAR scan," said
Haggar. "For Wheal Leisure - Ross
Poldark's mine - the art department
built the lower area's around an
existing mine on the Cornish coast and
we took over for the higher elements,
such as the roof structure and
windows. Grambler, the large mine set
into the hillside, was a combination of
digital matte painting and 3D elements
all composited in Fusion."
Currently airing in the UK on BBC
One, Poldark is set for transmission in
the US and Australia later this year.
