ARRIS Powers AMC Networks'
Satellite Distribution

announced that AMC Networks
- the entertainment company known
for its groundbreaking and celebrated
original content and award-winning
brands AMC, BBC AMERICA, IFC,
SundanceTV, and WE tv - has selected
the ARRIS ME-7000 and DSR-7400
video compression and transcoding
solutions.
They will serve as the foundation for
AMC Networks' satellite distribution
architecture of the future.
The ARRIS ME-7000 leverages the
latest HEVC compression technologies
to increase video capacity over
satellite
transmission
channels,
ultimately enabling next-generation
entertainment experiences for viewers
of AMC Networks' channel portfolio.
The platform is easy to upgrade and
provides tremendous cost savings
through improved density, power, and
cooling.
The ARRIS DSR-7400 family of
transcoders allows AMC Networks

to efficiently deliver services
through its existing QAM
networks and transcode HEVC
services to MPEG-2/4 HD and SD in
support of legacy set-tops. Its multituner capability can simultaneously
receive and process up to four input
satellite transponder multiplexes
enabling flexibility in service selection
across networks.
ARRIS Professional Services is
working closely with AMC Networks
to design, integrate, and install the
new technology framework within its
satellite infrastructure.

video transcoding in a single receive
unit. The all-in-one NovelSat FUSION
solution offers broadcasters significant

The
FUSION
encoder/
modulator receives multiple
simultaneous video streams
in any video format or
delivery
standard
and

encodes them into a high-efficiency
HEVC (H.265) video stream. The
compressed video is modulated and
securely uplinked using virtually
unbreakable (optional) 256-bit AES
encryption. On the receive side, the
FUSION transcoding IRD decrypts
and demodulates the satellite signals
and transcodes to any video format
including MPEG 2, MPEG 4 (H.264 AVC)
and HEVC to support OTT, ABR and
linear TV streams. Optional packaging
to HLS or DASH is also available in the
receive unit. In addition, the unit can
be a decoder only or can pass through

content for direct packaging.
NovelSat FUSION supports all satellite
transmission standards, including
DVB-S2/S2X, in addition to NovelSat
NS4, the world's most bandwidthefficient
satellite
transmission
waveform. With the most current,
advanced HEVC encoding from igolgi,
the efficiency benefits of NovelSat
NS4, and tight integration, FUSION
outperforms all other broadcast
solutions.
