GatesAir Underscores ATSC 3.0
and NextGen TV

atesAir exhibited fresh momentum
behind its ATSC 3.0 innovations
for NextGen television - specifically in
the area of Single Frequency Network
(SFN) architectures.
Last year GatesAir announced its
participation in the Phoenix Model
Market project, a collaborative trial
led by the Pearl TV consortium. The
project involves one dozen Phoenix,
Arizona area broadcasters, with
technology supplied by GatesAir and
other key industry supplies to support
testing. GatesAir last year supplied a
low-power Maxiva UAXTE air-cooled
transmitter for the initial phase, which
used a single transmitter for over-theair tests.
Pearl TV has announced that the
test bed will expand to multiple
transmission sites, establishing a true
SFN architecture. GatesAir will supply a
Maxiva ULXTE-10, 6.6 kW liquid-cooled
transmitter for this second phase to
help broadcasters evaluate the benefits

of SFN transmissions in a NextGen
ATSC 3.0 system.
Single Frequency Networks use two
or more transmitters within the same
market to improve signal coverage and
fill in challenging coverage gaps. SFN
architectures are key to moving beyond
the principal of signal coverage to the
signal capable of providing service,
and successful in-home and on-the-go
service is paramount to NextGen TV's
success. GatesAir supports many of the
largest SFN deployments worldwide,
including digital TV networks in Brazil
(ISDB-Tb) and Asia (DVB-T2); as well as
MaxxCasting SFN systems for FM radio
in the United States.
GatesAir participated in key ATSC
3.0 demonstrations around the NAB
show floor, including a North Hall
SFN demonstration sponsored by
the NAB Science and Technology
department. GatesAir provided one of
four transmitters powering live, on-air
broadcasts for the network. Visitors to

the GatesAir booth saw the operational
Maxiva UAXTE along with the live,
real-time ATSC 3.0 broadcast. An
active demonstration at Booth N2512
as part of ATSC's 'Ride the Road
to ATSC 3.0' campaign allowed
attendees to experience the North
Hall SFN demonstration, and
explore the many opportunities that
the ATSC 3.0 standard and NextGen
TV offer to local broadcasters.
GatesAir additionally introduced
a new range of ATSC 3.0-ready,
low-power
Maxiva
ULXTE
transmitters at NAB. Covering
LPTV requirements from 10 W to 2
kW, the new compact transmitter
designs have been developed to
serve global customers with limited
real estate and high operating
expenses, as well as low-power
U.S. broadcasters moving to new
channel assignments in future
repack phases.
These
new
models
were
demonstrated alongside GatesAir's
broad range of high-efficiency ULXTE &
UAXTE transmitters covering all power
levels.

ibec showed its new QD Series
flagship models, launched its TH-Z
tripod and slider series and the RH35D
fluid head and RS-350 tripod system, at
the 2019 NAB Show.
QD Series: The new 150mm class
flagship models in the Libec "Quality
Defined" series aim to redefine the
price versus quality relationship
at this price point, bringing a new
balance between price, payload, and
performance. Libec's QD Series is its
flagship model range and is the first
150mm systems in the history of the
brand.
The "10" with the QH1 head is aimed
at large teleprompter systems and
small box lens deployments. The "30"
with the QH3 is for mid-sized box
lenses. Both are available with ground
or mid-level spreaders.
TH-Z: Libec has launched the new
TH-Z tripod and slider series. Dual-head
specification available for both 75mm
ball diameter and flat base tripods is
mountable on sliders, skater dollies,
and other equipment.
Equipped with a One Touch attach
and release mechanism for speedy

and easy setups in the field, the
sliding plate is compatible with
Manfrotto and Sachtler heads.

is
only
1.1kg/2.4lb
(including
pan
handle.)
In spite of its lightweight
of only 2.4kg/5.3lb, the TH-Z
tripod has a high rigidity. The
extendable brace provides good
stability when mounting sliders.
Slider shooting with smooth
and precise controllability is
achieved by the eight highperformance ball bearings
running in a specific grease,

which are installed on the slider
platform. The ball bearings are
positioned efficiently on the rail top
and at an angle on the other side,
sandwiching the rail, to prevent
wobbling during operation.
An advanced model for large
camcorders the RS-350D Series from
Libec has been redesigned.
The RH35D fluid head, RS-350D
tripod system, and the RS-350DM
tripod system are new additions to the
RS Series line-up.
These
models
are suitable for
semi-shoulder
camcorders and
handheld
cameras
with shoulder type
configurations.
