Storage Strategy Straddles Cloud

The announcement is related to a
wider move by all major studios to
rethink productions workflows in the
cloud with the goal of porting much of
it over by 2030.
Cloud, hybrid cloud, and on-prem
NAS environments may benefit from
Qumulo's new file management
software. This targets users of large
scale or enterprise level data sets. Its
distributed file system enables instant
visibility to large, unstructured data
sets across on-prem and the cloud.
New features include an audit track of
who has accessed, modified, or deleted
files and increased data access across
both Windows and Mac by enabling
files to receive more than one stream
of data.
Pixit Media has made its flagship
storage solution PixStor available
on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Marketplace. The solution enables
creative organisations to rapidly
expand on-premise render pipelines
into Google Cloud - whilst still enjoying
all the performance, scalability
and data management benefits of

an on-premise PixStor
deployment.

burst to the cloud to gain

Every PixStor installation on GCP
features Ngenea, Pixit Media's data
transport mechanism, which allows the
automatic transfer of only
the data that is needed
between on-premise and
the cloud. "Having this
level of intelligence in the
data transport helps users
meet deadlines by allowing
work to start faster, while
reducing significant egress
and infrastructure costs
through the elimination of
unnecessary file copies,"
says Evans.
The latest version of Object
Matrix object storage solution,
MatrixStore 4.1 includes Sense for
collection of real-time statistics,
hardware monitoring and analytics
over storage systems on-prem, oncloud or on local PCs. MatrixStore
Vision, a browser-based content
search and collaboration tool, now
enables users to restore objects from
Amazon Glacier at a specific restore
speed. It also enables the display
of offline objects, making it easy to
view the entire library, no matter
where content is stored. MatrixStore
is also now integrated with VSN's
media management and workflow
automation platform, VSNExplorer.

CEO Jonathan Morgan, says: "Media

MatrixStore makes managing storage
on itself and across multiple storage
platforms easier than ever before."
Storage Made Easy provides a
multi-cloud data management and
data protection product called the
Enterprise File Fabric that unifies onpremises and on-cloud assets. It also
markets standalone products that
bridge desktop and cloud, such as
operating system, native cloud drives
and cloud explorer applications.
The latest version of File Fabric
incorporates AI/ML from Google
(with Amazon Rekognition and IBM
Watson to follow) for applications
like automatic video classification
and celebrity identification. It can
automatically extract metadata like
bit rate, frame rate, resolution, codec
and there's an improved in-browser
media playback which works from
any storage with Video Scrubbing, in
addition to thumbnails and previews.
The File Fabric solution offers a
"blanket" that companies can privately
apply to wrap around all their data:
on-premises, within a public cloud,
or on a third party software vendors'

example). Customers can use the File
Fabric for security, encryption and
control with a focus on compliance
regimes such as GDPR.
EditShare was the first company to
develop a non-Avid shared storage
platform and claims the first to deliver
a "media-engineered" NAS platform. It
was also the first to build a production
MAM solution within storage. Its latest
endeavour is EFS 2020, touted as the
fastest media-optimised file system

EditShare storage nodes and networks
to enables media organisations to
build large collaborative workflows.
One of them is in fact being used to
underpin NHK's 8K production at the
2020 Olympics.
Unlike generic IT storage, EditShare
has written its own drivers for EFS, for
use with Windows, MacOS and Linux.
EditShare manages the entire EFS
2020 technology stack from the file
system to OS drivers, which "means
enterprise-level stability and faster
video file transfers," according to CEO
Conrad Clemson. "Users can expect
more real-time video streams, without
the bottlenecks caused by legacy
network protocols."
EFS 2020 is linked with the firm's
Flow 2020 MAM for use with virtually
any brand's on-premise, near-line or
cloud storage solution.
