Gilat And China Satcom
Strengthen Partnership

Communications (China Satcom)
recently
announced
the
strengthening of its strategic
partnership to jointly provide
advanced satellite communication
services.
Gilat and China Satcom will
work in partnership to enable
and deploy Gilat's DVB-S2X
technologies throughout China while
supporting all business verticals.
China Satcom is a licensed
telecommunications service provider
in China which also owns and operates
the most capable and extensive Kaband spot beam satellite system
in China, the only Ka-band system

Hiltron Completes Large-Scale HTS
Monitoring System

iltron
Communications
has
announced the conclusion of a
major systems integration project for
a leading European satellite network
operator.
The new systems have been
delivered to 50 sites around the
world where they are being used
for continuous quality of service
monitoring
of
high-throughput
satellites.
Each system includes a Hiltron
HCS-4
satellite
communication
controller which is designed to form
the central control element for a
wide range of satcom applications.

These include switchover
between devices such
as downconverters, high
power amplifiers, waveguides, MPEG
digital video broadcast encoders and
integrated receiver/decoders.
The HCS-4 can also be used to
control and monitor optical-fibre
transceivers and antenna heaters.
Other features include an N-1
redundancy switch and BUC/HPA
controller, an LNB supply, a 2-1 LNB
redundancy switch controller, plus a
GPS-synchronised fully redundant lownoise 10 MHz reference generator.

communication controller is available
as a 2U high 19-inch rack mount unit
with main and backup power supplies
plus 13 slots for active modules. Also
available are two chassis mountable
frames accommodating up to 6 or up
to 14 active modules.
All three versions can be powered
from 24 volts DC and are operated
via an intuitive HTML-based graphic
interface. Modules are hot-pluggable
to allow easy exchange.

Optus 4K UHD Video Streaming Partnerships
O
ptus has launched its 5G offering,
plus announced new 4K UHD video
streaming partnerships.
With over 290 5G sites in Sydney,
Canberra,
Adelaide,
Brisbane,
Melbourne, Perth and other key

locations in NSW, Victoria and
Queensland, plus 1200 sites planned
by March 2020, Optus has launched its
5G offer.
"Today,
we
are
announcing
something truly unique for Australian
customers, 5G both in the home and
on the mobile," said Allen Lew, CEO,
Optus.
Optus 5G will also be available
'on the go' through a range of 5G
compatible smartphones. Following
the kick off of the 2019/20 Premier
League Season with the world's
first 5G Premier League broadcast,
Mr Lew said Optus will focus on

delivering the best 5G video streaming
experience to customers.
From June 2020, via Optus Sport,
Optus 5G Home customers will be
able to enjoy selected games from the
Euro 2020 tournament, the 2020/21
Champions League and the 2020/21
Premier League in 4K Ultra HD
Streaming quality.
Optus is also working with OTT Video
content partners 7plus, Amazon Prime
Video, Netflix, Fetch and Stan with
others to follow to ensure that their
2020 4K Ultra HD Streaming Video
content line-up is optimised for the
Optus 5G network.

Canal Digital
And Viasat
Consumer
Merger

Nordic
Entertainment
Group
(NENT
Group) have formed a new company
that combines Canal Digital and
Viasat Consumer (satellite pay-TV &
broadband-TV operations).
This will create a Nordic TV
distribution business and capture
synergies in a maturing DTH segment.
Telenor and NENT Group will each hold
half of the company.
Jørgen C. Arentz Rostrup, CFO,
Telenor Group, said: "The joint venture
will combine the respective strengths
of Canal Digital and Viasat Consumer,
leveraging synergies for the benefit of
our customers and shareholders."
He said that the joint venture would
use Telenor Satellite's services on 1°
west for DTH transmission.
Commenting on the deal, Anders
Jensen, President and CEO, NENT
Group, said: "Combining Viasat
Consumer and Canal Digital makes
perfect sense. We are creating a largescale TV operator that will create
sustainable value for customers and
owners, and be able to compete
with large scale regional and local
competitors."
Headquartered in both Oslo and
Stockholm, the company will also have
a substantial presence in Copenhagen.
The Nordic consumer offering will
focus on satellite distributed pay-TV
(DTH) and streaming services, as
well as IPTV on open fibre networks,
and market-leading TV distribution
services.
Subject to regulatory approval, the
merger will be completed during the
first half of 2020.
