satellites through the year, C-COM has
been researching a new electronically
steerable Ka-band phased array
antenna. The company explains
this includes a unique process for
calibration of a phased array antenna
which is used to adjust internal phase

shifters and amplifiers thus making
it possible to recalibrate the antenna
on-the-fly. The hope is that his new
design, which has now been patented
in the US, will be incorporated into
the next gen of the company's phased
array antennas.
Plenty of innovation on show at
Germany's RF-Design as well. Its new
LSC series is a high quality modular
L-Band splitter/combiner system
suited for versatile RF distribution
applications where accurate RF
power, high stability and availability

is necessary. The system combines
the LSC102 (dual splitter/combiner
chassis) and the LSC408 (octal
splitter/combiner chassis) together
with a corresponding 1:8 splitter
module and 8:1 combiner module,
each coming with built in 1:1 redundant
adjustable amplifier. The company's
QLink, meanwhile, is a Quad outdoor/
indoor RF-over-Fiber system which can
be populated with up to 4 optical TX
or RX modules, also supporting mixed
TX/RX population allowing secure and
high quality optical transmission of RF
signals in L-Band or extended L-Band
over a distance of up to 5km. The
outdoor enclosure is designed to be
mounted directly at the antenna mast
while the 1RU/19-inch indoor unit is for
rack-mount design.
Terrasat Communications
was
talking hardening back at
IBC, with cybersecurity an
increasingly important pivot for
the company. The new IBUC 3 is
going to be available in C-band,
Ku-band (the first to ship),
X-band, & Ka-band models, and
includes new terminal hardening
cybersecurity features which will
roll out to all IBUC models and
are military grade implementing the

SNMPv3 release. New developments
of higher-powered GaAs models
are in development, as well as triband frequency capabilities for the
company's Ka-band IBUC models.
And lastly, the cloud is making
inroads into satellite as it is
everywhere
else.
SpaceBridge,
the rebadged Advantech Satellite
Networks, launched its SatCloud
managed services for satellite
network operators, backhaulers, and
broadcasters at Satellite 2019. It offers
the usual benefits of the cloud - the
ability to scale almost at will, the
advantages of opex over capex, speed
to market, lower costs and more - and
has been designed to scale from just a
few Mbps all the way up to hundreds
of Mbps.

he SATELLITE Conference &
Exhibition will return to the Walter
E. Washington Convention Center in
Washington, DC on March 9 to 12, 2020.
The exhibit hall will be open from
Tuesday, March 10 through Thursday,
March 12, and three hundred
companies are booked to exhibit on
the show floor, including Airbus, Ball
Aerospace, Boeing, Hughes an Echostar
Company, NASA, Northrop Grumman,
Peraton, Rohde & Schwarz USA, and
Speedcast.
According to the Satellite Industry
Association's 2019 State of the Satellite
Industry report, revenues in satellite
manufacturing, ground equipment and
satellite launch services all had positive
growth over the previous year, and
the global space economy grew 3% in
2018. The SATELLITE show's mission
is to support and sustain this growth
through connecting the buyers and
suppliers to each other, and to the
innovation and insight they need to
succeed.
For 39 years, SATELLITE has been
the go-to event for big industry
announcements, upcoming trends

in ground systems and space
technology, finding and cultivating new
partnerships, and reconnecting with
colleagues. Every year the show finds
new ways to provide a global forum
for education, collaboration, business
and inspiration, and 2020 will be no
exception.
New features for the SATELLITE 2020
show include:
