T

eamwork is a vital element in
many aspects of TV and radio
programme production, not least
in live broadcasting where efficient
communication between producer
and production crew or presenter and
interviewee are essential. This article
looks at the newest intercom and
talkback tools available to make it all
happen on time and every time.
AEQ's Xplorer is a Wi-Fi-based
wireless intercom equipped with four
shortcut keys, two programmable
keys and a multifunction screen. It
can operate with an intercom matrix
or as a party-line terminal. The
panel employs a roaming function
allowing the operator to move freely
throughout the coverage area. When
used as a client for AEQ Crossnet,
Conexia and TH5000/TW5000/IL5000
intercom matrices, each key can
activate talk and/or listen, remote
one way, remote both ways, remote
volume and dial call. It can coexist
with 8000 series wired user panels
and with terminals using the Xvirtual

application on Apple iOS and Microsoft
Windows operating systems. Xplorer
can also work in party-line mode, as
a terminal for the Kroma E@synet
system, with four channels and up to
28 devices, without needing a central
matrix. A record/playback function
for the previous 30 seconds captures
the previous call or communication
to the terminal. The belt-pack has a
dual volume control to give direct
access to the level adjustment
of the main presenter. Offering
sufficient battery autonomy for 20
hours of work, it can be charged by
means of a multiple base.
Audinate's Dante Virtual Soundcard
turns any computer into a Dante
endpoint for networked audio.
It provides a standard WDM or
ASIO audio interface that allows
any installed audio software to
communicate up to 64 channels of
lossless audio over a standard 1Gbps
network to/from any Dante-enabled
AV endpoints, including other Dante
Virtual Soundcards. Intended for
computer-driven content playback,
multi-channel
recording
and lecture capture,
it is compatible with
the more than 2,000
Dante-enabled products
available from multiple
vendors.
BroaMan has introduced
a new 'standard' version of
its Route66 configurable
router offering automatic
routing via an Optocorepowered fibre patch bay. It is

designed for use in installations with
multiple connection points and mobile
stage boxes as well as live events and
broadcast. Occupying 2U, the Route66
allows routing of fibre/copper cables
via software instead of a manual patch,
enabling automated IP workflows
and remote cable management. It
also allows fibre/copper conversion
without external devices. The platform
itself provides single channel nonblocking 40 x 40 router ports. The new
standard version offers 40 SFP+ slots
for 40 hot-swappable bi-directional
SFPs, each slot handling up to 4Gbit/s.
Comrex' EarShot IFB is a hardwarebased system that delivers live
audio feeds to callers. EarShot IFB is
designed to provide telephone-based
live studio programme and IFB audio
to field-based remote broadcasts, like
TV ENG reports. Up to 30 callers can
dial in and listen to the audio feeds
making it possible to replace up to 30
POTS lines with one simple box.
Glensound's Expedition is a portable
broadcasters' phone compatible
with 3G UMTS and 4G LTE
networks. It also offers
normal
narrow-band
connections on 2G, 3G and
4G networks. The Expedition
has two microphone/line/48
volt inputs that are separately

switched, and two 6.35 mm headphone
outputs. Two commentators can take
the unit to a field event and operate
as a commentary team. A reporter
can give an interviewee a dedicated
microphone and headphones. A
small ENG crew can have off-air/IFB
with monitoring for the talent and
cameraman. The Expedition has a
configuration screen allowing easy
dialling, caller ID display and signal
strength metering.
LaON Technology's LT750 digital
wireless intercom use the worldwide
license free 5 GHz UNII band and
frequency-interference avoidance. It is
claimed to guarantee stability even in
the large congested site environments.
The LT750 is designed for use at large
venues or in OB trucks.
Lectrosonics
has
announced
the availability of the Venue 2-941
modular multi-channel receiver in
the recently expanded 941-960 MHz
frequency band for use in the USA.
Other than tuning range, this version
of the Venue 2 receiver is functionally
identical to the wideband UHF versions
available since 2016.
The new system consists of A VRM2941 host frame assembly and the
VRT2-941 receiver modules. The Venue
2-941 can host up to six channels in 1
U and offers an Ethernet connection
for programming and monitoring via
Wireless Designer software on a PC
or Mac computer. The Venue 2-941
receiver is compatible with previously
introduced transmitters in the 941960 MHz band, including the SMV-941
and SMQV-941 miniature belt pack
transmitters, the HMa-941 plug-on
