Rohde & Schwarz Validates First 5G
RF Conformance Tests With TS8980
T

he Global Certification Forum
GCF and PTCRB certification
organization have accepted first test
case validations in various FR1 and
LTE band combinations using the new
5G RF conformance test system R&S
TS8980FTA-3A from Rohde & Schwarz.
The solution is the latest version of
a successful family of RF conformance
test systems and the only one in the
market supporting mobile technologies
all the way from 2G to 5G on one
platform.
Conformance tests are vital for
mobile communication technology
since mobile network operators
worldwide rely on the certification
schemes of GCF and PTCRB for mobile
devices in their networks.
This validation process also ensures
that the updated version of the R&S
TS8980 has officially been accepted by
GCF and PTCRB as suitable for the 5G
RF requirements described in the 3GPP
specifications.
Rohde & Schwarz has been a one-

stop solutions supplier for
conformance
and operator
acceptance testing from 2G
through LTE.
The new R&S CMX500 radio
communication tester adds 5G
NR signalling functionality to the
R&S TS8980.
The unique test solution
now supports RF conformance
test cases for all radio access
technologies from GSM, WCDMA,
LTE through 5G, and is an
established tool for consistent RF
tests from R&D to conformance
testing.
The integrated test system,
operated by the sequencer
software R&S CONTEST, offers
high efficiency and precise,
reproducible
measurement
results.

Technologies' Interface Control
Document for 5G.
The document describes the
unique messages from the
Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF
System.
Access to these messages is
critical to the development of
test solutions such as QualiPoc
that captures and analyses these
messages for determining network
quality and customer quality of
experience.
Any type of interaction between
a mobile device and the mobile
network
requires
message
exchange to verify all aspects of a
mobile phone call or data session.
The quantity and complexity of
messaging continues to increase
as more features and more
capabilities are added.

Doordarshan TV Orders GatesAir
G

atesAir has received a new
TV transmission order from
Doordarshan,
India's
national
broadcaster, to strengthen analogue
UHF television coverage in the Jammu
region.
GatesAir, Doordarshan's exclusive TV
transmission supplier since 2012, will
deliver six digital-ready Maxiva ULX
liquid-cooled transmitters by the end
of 2019. The transmitters integrate
GatesAir's APEX M2X multi-standard
Exciter, allowing Doordarshan to
convert the transmitters to DVB-T2 or
DVB-T2-Lite at any time.
GatesAir has delivered more than 30
digital-ready Maxiva TV transmitters
to Doordarshan over the past seven
years. The six new 10kW transmitters
will be deployed in redundant 1+1
configurations at three sites in Jammu,
Srinagar and Leh, and will especially
improve coverage along India's
northwest border.

Doordarshan selected GatesAir due to
the continued reliability of its existing
transmitter fleet, which is particularly
important in the Jammu region due to
its dynamic climate and mountainous
terrain.
GatesAir was also the only vendor
able to meet Doordarshan's exacting
technical requirements outlined in the
tender document.
The broadcaster's testing and
evaluation standards were met
with 100 percent compliance upon
a recent visit of Doordarshan
executives to GatesAir's Quincy, Illinois
manufacturing centre.
