your company adapting
to
meet
customer
demands?
Jan
Eveleens:
Customers are looking
for innovative, flexible
solutions
that
are
futureproof, scalable, and
yet affordable - and all these attributes
have been Riedel trademarks for quite
some time. But there's always room
to grow. When the chance presented
itself to take our growing video
business to the next level with the
acquisition of the Canadian IP video
pioneer Embrionix, we seized the
opportunity and are really happy with
this move!
With Embrionix in the fold, we now
have an even stronger roadmap into
the IP world as a comprehensive

migration strategy for customers. The
Embrionix products are extremely
versatile, incredibly compact, and
already ready for the future. Their
technologies fully support ST2110,
NMOS, UHD/12G and 25G/100G, and
perfectly complement our existing
video solutions. We have been
pursuing a networked approach to
video infrastructures for more than a
decade with our MediorNet real-time
media networks. Now, with the help
of the talented Embrionix engineering

team, our vision for
MediorNet as a true allround solution, from
distributed SDI to a full
native IP infrastructure,
will come to market much
sooner than we could have
imagined.

InB:
What
criteria
are
broadcasters using to select
products?
JE: I think broadcasters are no
longer looking for just good products.
In today's fast-paced times, with
disruptive
technologies
rapidly
changing the face of our industry,
customers are also looking for solid
and reliable supply partners. Partners
that they can cooperate with, that they
can trust, and who are able to provide
proper support over the long term.
Riedel has always been this kind of
partner. That's why I strongly believe
that Embrionix customers will greatly
benefit from our comprehensive global
sales and support infrastructure. This
acquisition really is a win-win!
InB: Any product innovations
ahead that you can discuss?
JE: With MediorNet, Riedel has
already established a substantial and
growing presence in media transport,
routing and processing. Now, the
combination of Riedel MediorNet and
the Embrionix technologies will bolster
and accelerate substantial further
growth and I think our customers
will benefit from the great synergies
created by the combination of
MediorNet and Embrionix. It is a bit too
early to disclose some of the exciting
things that we got cooking here, but
watch this space!
InB: What are some of your recent
deployments?
JE: A particularly interesting one is
our joint deployment with Embrionix
in CBC/Radio-Canada's new Maison
de Radio-Canada (MRC) broadcasting
facility.
The
Canadian
public
broadcasters have chosen an open
standards-based IP approach for their
state-of-the-art broadcast centre - and
have picked just the right partners for

real-time media
networking

their transition to IP with Riedel and
Embrionix.
For one, they were looking for
a powerful IP communications
infrastructure based on SMPTE ST
2110-30/31 and NMOS IS-04/05/07
standards and decided to implement
a large Riedel backbone with Artist
and Bolero wired and wireless
intercom systems. With its extensive
IP capabilities, high port density, and
multiple redundancy schemes, our new
Artist-1024 node proved a perfect fit
for a large networked installation like
the MRC.
Tapping into Embrionix' deep
expertise in media-over-IP solutions,
CBC/Radio-Canada also selected their
miniaturized, software-defined emSFP
HD and UHD SDI-to-IP gateways to
be deployed widely within the MRC's
core IP infrastructure. Embrionix'
compact SDI-to-IP gateways allow
CBC/Radio-Canada to optimize space,
consume less power, curtail equipment
purchases, and facilitate integration
into large-scale systems.
I am confident that by joining forces
with Embrionix, we will strengthen our
partnership with CBC/Radio-Canada.
There are great synergies on the
horizon that our partners at CBC will
undoubtedly benefit from.
