A

s one of the youngest Satellite
Operator in the region, Es'hailSat
was a late entrant into the Middle East
and North Africa (MENA) satellite space.
However, over the past few years they
have emerged rapidly into various
verticals with a versatile portfolio of
services to meet customer demands.
With the launch of the second satellite
in 2018, Es'hailSat now operates two
satellites in orbit to support customers
and is also expanding reach with
partnerships for new satellites in the
coming years.
Core Business
Direct-To-Home
service
is
the
company's core business, and they
have been delivering high quality
video content to consumers across
the region. Both Es'hail-1 and Es'hail-2
satellites, owned and operated by
Es'hailSat, are located at 25.5°E/26°E
orbital position, which is a hotspot
in MENA for DTH television content.
With over 700 TV channels available
on satellites at this location, especially
with high quality premier sports and
entertainment content, the orbital
position of 25.5°E/26°E is truly the
orbital hot slot in MENA where all
the best regional channels converge.
Es'hailSat has been leveraging this
advantage to support local and
regional TV broadcasters and content
producers that wish to distribute
their content via satellite to reach
consumers. Over the past few years,
they have been successful in signing
multiple new broadcast customers

in MENA to utilise Es'hail-1 and
Es'hail-2 to distribute their
channel across the region.
The company is now exploring
various options to provide added
value to the customers utilising
Es'hailSat capacity, and one area
is to extend the video distribution
through an OTT platform. This
innovative approach enables
Es'hailSat's
broadcaster
customers to reach out to a
significantly wider range of
viewers that use smartphones, tablets,
and PCs to watch video content, in
addition to viewers that use traditional
satellite dishes, STBs, and television
sets.
Teleport Commissioned
Es'hailSat recently commissioned a
new teleport in Doha for Telemetry
Tracking and Command of their
satellites, in addition to providing
teleport services to broadcast and
telecommunications
customers.
Leverage the state-of-the-art teleport
inaugurated early last year, broadcast
customers and content providers will
be able to uplink their video services to
Es'hailSat satellites without investing
heavily on new uplink station.
Es'hailSat has also incorporated
playout solutions at their Teleport
for their customers to be able to
playout their video content from the
Teleport without having to invest in
a full playout solution. With these
operational responsibilities managed
by Es'hailSat, broadcasters and

content providers can focus on their
core business of content production
and management, and not worry
about playout and technical aspects
of content distribution. The broadcast
market in MENA is predominantly free
to air with satellites as the primary
means for content distribution, and
this is expected to continue for the
foreseeable future, with demands
for satellite connectivity forecast
to grow in the MENA region. This
however has not stopped Es'hailSat
from taking new initiatives within the
Telecommunication sector to provide
connectivity services in various
verticals within the markets. Es'hailSat
has developed strong partnerships
with Mobile Satellite Service providers
and hardware manufacturers to
cater for the mobile satellite service
demands for both land and marine
applications. The company has been
successfully supporting maritime
mobile applications for several
companies with large fleets and luxury
yachts.

Service Expansion
They have also been able to expand
services with capacity lease in the
Telecommunication sector where
demands requiring satellite links have
seen a dramatic increase over the past
few years. Es'hailSat is implementing
a new VSAT hub in addition to their
existing hub providing managed
VSAT services, to widen their service
portfolio to cater for these demands in
a versatile manner.
They have been actively working to
respond to the demands for satellite
connectivity especially for offshore
connectivity, and mobile connectivity
demands. To increase awareness of
the company's initiatives, Es'hailSat
hosted a customer event in Doha in
December 2019, which was attended
by key customers and entities from
various sectors. Industry experts
and technology experts were on
hand to present and discuss about
the state of the industry, current
trends and what the future looks
like for the satellite communication
sectors,
including
broadcasting,
telecommunications, mobility sectors.
Attendees were introduced to new
systems and products available in the
market, along with live demonstration
of satellite connectivity solutions
on the mobility applications. Much
attraction was derived during the
show, and Es'hailSat plans to continue
engaging with the industry experts
and customers for opportunities,
collaborations, and to be in forefront
of innovation in the satellite industry.
