and Portable Power

A

n entire branch of the power
industry devotes itself to finding
new ways of storing electrical energy. In
the portable electronic device business,
from mobile phones right through to
broadcast cameras and lights, lithiumion is currently the only horse in the
race. 'Lithium-Ion is Dead' announced
one power industry news analyst back
in 2016. Clearly premature. The most
significant trend in this survey is the
push towards higher power capacity,
smaller size and greater operational
versatility. Also the emergence of apps
that allow batteries to communicate
their charge condition to an operator's
mobile phone, presupposing the phone
has sufficient reserve power to accept
the calls.
Anton/Bauer's Titon SL lithiumion batteries are smaller and lighter
additions to the Titon range. With
V-Mount or Gold Mount options, the
batteries support a wide range of
cameras and chargers. Remaining
runtime can be viewed via an integral
LCD or remotely through the camera
viewfinder. The batteries are rated for
use in temperatures from -20 to 60
Celsius.
Bebob's B-Mount battery mount is
designed to power 12 volt and 24 volt
cameras. Previously, manufacturers
had to develop various data
transmission protocols for different
device configurations. With the

B-Mount interface, only one protocol
is required. The specifications for the
interface have been made accessible
and shared by various manufacturers.
Beillen offers a wide range of
lithium-ion batteries for broadcast
cameras and lighting applications.
Recent additions include the BL-RBP95, BL-X-BP160, BL-X-BP240 and
BL-X-BP250, all of which are V-Mount
compatible. Also offered are GoldMount, NP1, DV and HDV chargers
in a variety of sizes and capacities.
The BLB1703-AN4 is a four channel
simultaneous
lithium-ion
battery
charger and DC adapter. When used as
a DC adapter, it powers the camcorder
directly via XLR connector. As battery
charger, it can recharge up to four
Gold Mount type Li-ion batteries
simultaneously.
BlockBattery
has
introduced
new 560 watt hour blocks claimed
to charge in the half the time of
comparable competing products.
The blocks come in three design
configurations
to
suit
varying
equipment applications and voltage
requirements. Model S600 is a
switchable voltage battery designed
for cinematic camera rigs. It provides
nominal outputs of 28.8 or 14.4

volts at up to 15 amps. Model D600
is a dual voltage battery designed
for cinematic or lighting production
applications where 14 volt and 24 volt
outputs are required simultaneously
or for applications limited to a 30 volt
input. The D600 provides 560 watt
hours of capacity. Model T600 is a 30
volt battery designed for HMI lighting
applications. The T600 provides a
nominal 30 volts at up to 30 amps
total output and has a capacity of
600 watt hours. Model T800 provides
800 watt hours. "The new 600 series
blocks are designed to complement
and fit in between the capacity range
of our existing 400 and 800 series of
blocks," says BlockBattery's Director of
Sales & Marketing Greg Prentiss. "They
further improve charging performance
by cutting charge times to about four
hours."
Blueshape's CVTR2P is a dual
channel simultaneous portable charger
for V-Lock batteries. It delivers up to
6.0 amps per channel when charging
large batteries and automatically
adapts the charge speed to avoid
overheating and overcharging when
handling smaller batteries.
Core SWX's Hypercore Neo line
consists of Gold Mount and V-Mount
mini 98 watt hour lithium ion battery
packs rated at up to 12 amps continues
and 16 amps peak. Features include a
backlit LCD and the ability to receive
battery information on a mobile phone
via the VoltBridgeID app. A 5 volt USB
charging port also functions as an
upgrade port. "Being in what is now
an inundated battery market provides
us the opportunity to continue to set
ourselves a part, and we're doing it
again with the launch our Hypercore
NEO line," adds Core SWX CEO
Ross Kanarek. Also new is the Fleet
Quantum 2 x 2 simultaneous charger.
When four packs are connected, the
charger will detect which two packs
have the most charge capacity and
first charge those to full capacity. A
colour touchscreen LCD shows battery
data including state of charge, cycle
count and capacity.
Lastly, Core SWX's new Nano-M
battery is a 98 watt hour pack for
cameras accepting the Canon BP-A
style battery, such as the Canon C200,
C300 Mark II and the C500 Mark II.

Frezzi has redesigned its FB-100
and FB-200 batteries which are now
housed in a stronger case. The FB100 is claimed to be the maximum
allowable sized lithium-ion battery
permitted as aircraft luggage. The FB240 is claimed to be the world's most
powerful compact lithium-ion camera
battery.
Hawk-Woods has introduced two
power adaptors for the Sony FX9
camera. The V-Mount VLM-FX9 and
Gold Mount AB-FX9 offer power
outputs for powering accessories
which are not powered directly from
the FX9. Outputs included are two
Power-con (D-Tap) which provide
nominal battery voltage, 1x USB 5 volt
and the FX9 power lead sending power
directly into the camera's DC port. This
allows the use of standard 14.4 volt
V-mount batteries and Gold Mount
batteries directly into the camera.
Mechanically both the VLM-FX9 and
AB-FX9 fit the Sony FX9 camera the
same as the Sony XDCA-FX9 extension
unit would. The adaptor is fully
secured into place via two supplied
screws which attach to the rear of the
camera body beneath the removable
camera plate. A further feature
included on both the VLM-FX9 and ABFX9 is a low voltage LED alarm which
blinks red when the battery voltage is
becoming low.
Hedbox' Nero series batteries are
claimed to provide extra security and
stability to the inner battery cells. An
extra USB power output allows the
charging of mobile phones, tablets
or other accessories from a single
battery. The Nero M contains a built
in four-LED power meter that, at
the press of a button, displays the
remaining battery percentage as
100%, 75%, 50%, or 25%.
