Riedel Backbone Deployed At
New Jersey's Prudential Center

rudential Center in downtown
Newark, New Jersey, has replaced
its aging signal and communications
infrastructure with an all-new signal
routing and intercom backbone based
on Riedel solutions.
Riedel's MediorNet real-time signal
transport, processing, and routing
technology is integrated with an Artist
digital matrix intercom mainframe
and Bolero wireless intercom to
enable seamless and high-quality
communications
throughout
the
facility.
Opened in 2007, Prudential Center
has been the home arena for the NHL's
New Jersey Devils, the Seton Hall
University Pirates men's basketball
team, and more than 175 concerts,
family shows, and special events each
year.
"When the time came to upgrade
our routing and comms systems, we
explored several vendors in both
categories. Ultimately, Riedel was
the perfect choice for our budget,

the requirements of our
facility, and the technical
capabilities of MediorNet,
Artist,
and
Bolero,"
said Joe Kuchie, Senior

and Live Production,
Prudential Center. "In
particular,
we
have
been blown away by the
outstanding voice quality
and range of the Bolero
system when compared
to tests we ran on other
solutions. Other advantages are the
integrated features of MediorNet and
the flexibility to grow the system just
by adding more nodes where needed,
rather than having to buy a completely
new router."

literate.
However, this number is often
considered to be skewed by the
inequality of developed vs developing
countries.
For
example,
many
countries in Sub-Saharan Africa still
have literacy rates below 30%. As
a result, communicating ideas and
concepts is difficult in these locations
through the standard written word.

Galcom International team set to travel

To combat these challenges, Galcom
International has focused on using the
spoken word via broadcasting radio
to communicate the Teachings of
Christianity.
To broadcast their message, the
Galcom team utilises a few different
radio devices made in house, including
the Compass and the Streamer.
However, in recent years, they have
been asked to install small FM radio
stations in conflict areas where there
is a real possibility of the station
being vandalised or equipment stolen.
They've also been asked to assist with
relief efforts during power outages
in remote areas. In response, they
developed the OmniStation, which
utilises a CP Cases SatRack to house
a fully functioning microphone-toantenna solution that can be deployed
in less than an hour.
According to Galcom's Executive
Director, Tim Whitehead, "our partners
reported that in one case their workers
had to flee a village under attack and

were able to quickly disconnect the
power source and the coax to the
antenna and flee with the equipment
(a US$12,000 investment). They
continued broadcasting in a refugee
camp until they were able to return to
the village earlier this year."
The SatRack is an extremely
lightweight 19" rack-mount transit
case
designed
specifically
for
applications like Galcom's. The
honeycomb polypropylene
shell ensures the
entire system is
light enough to
be carried by one
individual.
The
internal chassis is
shock-mounted, so the
broadcast components are
isolated from substantial shock
and vibration forces during transport
on foot or in a vehicle and during
operation.
