New Joystick Controller Enables Simpler,
Network-Based Video Production

experienced a host of changes
in the last year. Production teams
are working remotely, and the ability
to be proficient in both mobile and
studio-based settings has become
essential. Manufacturers in our
industry must recognize the need for
flexibility as teams continue to work in
a combination of remote and in-person
settings for the foreseeable future.
At PTZOptics, we've learned a lot
from our house of worship customers,
who rely heavily on volunteer camera
operators of varying skill levels.
Delivering on these users' feedback
and goals of enhancing their video
production capabilities, our engineers
have designed a new IP and serialcontrolled joystick with features that
improve video production workflows
and make PTZ camera operation

easier. The PT-SUPERJOY-G1 joystick
(the " SuperJoy " ) is a comprehensive
solution supporting serial and
network-based camera control for
not only our own PTZOptics and
HuddleCamHD cameras, but also
Sony, Birddog, Newtek and other PTZ
cameras for select settings.
When using IP control, the SuperJoy
supports cameras with the latest
version of NDI (NDIv4|HX). This
standard for IP video production
opens the door for users to control
any camera that offers NDIv4, making
for a more universal solution as NDI
cameras become increasingly popular.
With an IP decoder built in - taking the
RTSP stream from the camera out via
HDMI for a preview - any producer's
workflow will be enhanced.
With a variety of operating modes,

multi-camera production
control at the fingertips of
users of any ability level. As broadcast
production teams may similarly rely
on freelance or sometimes lessexperienced camera operators, this
solution is game changing. Ideal for
more complex productions using
multiple camera angles, the SuperJoy
can be programmed with up to 255
PTZ camera presets, including 9
" quick presets'' to help enable video
production with the literal push of
a button. Users can also create up to
four camera control groups with up
to seven cameras per group, allowing

them to easily change locations or
configurations.
The SuperJoy's four customizable
buttons allow the operator to
extend control beyond
just cameras. These
can be programmed to
trigger " super presets, "
sending custom commands
via HTTP, UART, TCP or UDP
to
network-based
equipment
including lighting control systems,
speakers, and more. The built-in " basic
mode " disables most control other
than single-camera joystick control
and presets, while " matrix mode " gives
the user the ability to call presets for
up to three cameras. Regardless of
mode, the SuperJoy lights up available
buttons for the user and displays the
current capture stream on its built-in
LCD display.

For IP production workflows, Ultra
Encode supports second-generation
NDI|HX, the lower-bitrate mode in
NewTek's popular NDI® IP media
transport technology. The bandwidthfriendliness of NDI|HX enables it to
be transmitted wirelessly over Ultra
Encode's built-in Wi-Fi support,
maximizing flexibility in on-site
production and monitoring workflows.
Ultra Encode units can be combined
with Magewell's multi-format Pro
Convert decoders for robust, end-toend, live media transport in either
NDI|HX or streaming formats.

Two initial Ultra Encode models
- the Ultra Encode HDMI and Ultra
Encode SDI - offer a choice of HDMI
or 3G-SDI input and loop-through
interfaces. Both models can
encode and stream content
up to 1080p60, while the
Ultra Encode HDMI also
accepts 4K HDMI inputs, downconverting them automatically to
HD. Embedded audio is complemented
by analog, line-level audio input and
output connections. In addition to WiFi, the encoder offers an RJ-45 Gigabit
Ethernet port for wired networking.
Ultra Encode's compact, cameramountable metal chassis measures
106.7mm square with a height
of 25.4mm. The encoder can be
configured and controlled through an
intuitive, browser-based Web interface
or programmatically via HTTP-based
APIs, providing systems integrators
with exceptional deployment flexibility
