the
NBC Olympics Selects
Sony Broadcast
elestream®, a leading provider
of workflow automation, media

distribution of video, has announced a
strategic partnership with Encompass
Digital Media, to provide content
management and media processing
for Encompass' Altitude Media
Cloud. The Altitude Media Cloud was
built specifically for the demanding
requirements of the Media &
Entertainment industry with a goal of
bringing the cost of cloud storage more
in line with traditional on-prem costs.
The partnership will see Telestream
providing storage content management
services for archived media as well
as media processing services to
Encompass and its customers on the
Altitude Media Cloud platform.

partnership represents
a natural extension
of both companies' development
roadmaps which will greatly benefit
our combined customer bases, " said

Telestream content management
and storage customers using Masstech
and DIVA will be able to easily migrate
their content from on-premises large
LTO tape libraries or other cloud
providers into the Altitude cloud,
as and when required. For many
companies, managing content both
on the ground and in cloud will be a
reality for some time. Making that
process seamless to organizations is a
key focus of the partnership.
Once data is in the cloud, it must be
processed there as well. To do that,
Telestream Cloud Services will now be
available on the Altitude Media Cloud
to provide cloud-native transcoding,
standards conversion, color space
transformation, QC, OTT monitoring,
and subtitles and captioning services
over the widest range of formats.
Many media companies are
at various stages of migration
between on-prem and the cloud.
This partnership provides end-toend
assistance for customers as
they seek to intelligently move their
media assets. Once media arrives in
the cloud, it's critical to have all the
services working seamlessly together
for maximum efficiency and cost
savings.

BC Olympics, a division
of the
NBC Sports Group, has selected
Sony Electronics to provide broadcast
and production equipment for its
production of the Games of the XXXII
Olympiad, which take place in Tokyo,
Japan, from July 23 - August 8. The
announcement was made recently by
David Mazza, CTO & SVP, NBC Sports
Group & Olympics, and John Studdert,
Vice President, Media Solutions, Sony
Electronics.
NBC Olympics' crews will use nearly
100 Sony cameras to capture footage
at event venues and record athlete
interviews, press conferences, and
other assignments that require studio
and portable recording and capture.
A selection of the Sony cameras,
including the HDC-3500, will be used
for IP-enabled transmission, while the
rest will operate in SDI. The camera
roster also features Sony's HDC-5500
and HDC-3500 4K/HDR, high-frame
rate studio cameras for slow-motion
replay footage, along with XDCAM®
camcorders including the PXW-Z750,
PXW-Z450, PXW-X400 and PXW-Z280.
NBC Olympics will use several of
Sony's production switcher models
- including the flagship XVS-9000
4K/3G/HD IP-ready switcher and the
XVS-8000 and XVS-6000 4K/3G/HD
video switchers designed for IP- and
SDI-based production.
Many of the switchers
will be used in an IPbased
environment
and several will be
designated for 1080P
HDR production.
The switchers will handle feeds
from each sports venue to NBC
Olympics' production facility inside
NBC Olympics' International Broadcast
Center
in
Tokyo,
as
well
as
to
originate HD cable coverage across
NBCUniversal's various networks and
platforms. NBC Olympics will also
use hundreds of Sony's professional
monitors, including 4K Master
Monitors for critical picture evaluation
and a series of Trimaster EL OLED/4K
monitors for on set and location
monitoring.

advancements as we progress
towards UHD and a new generation of
infrastructure, " said Mazza.

the conversion
of
the IBC to a fully IP system and the
combination of 1080P, 4K and HDR
workflows, all while protecting the
1080I SDR streams for our main
broadcasts. Sony has been key in
assisting us with an updated menu
of equipment, and consulting with
us on how to ensure these processes
run as efficiently as possible while
maintaining the highest of quality
pictures and reliability. "

BirdDog Launches A200 & A300 Gen 2
Outdoor NDI Cameras
irdDog has announced their new
A200 Gen 2 and A300 Gen 2, full
NDI, IP67 rated outdoor broadcast PTZ
cameras.

A200 Gen 2 and A300 Gen 2
house BirdDog's custom silicon NDI
implementation to produce broadcast
quality images. Both cameras also
feature SDI for traditional baseband
workflows.
Building on from the previous
versions, A200 Gen 2 and A300 Gen
2 now include an amazing toolkit for
shading with Colour Matrix controls for
64 positions of Red, Green, Blue, Cyan,
Yellow, Magenta, as well as support for
72 Gamma positions.
The new Colour Matrix and Gamma
tools can all be controlled remotely
by Cam Control, a free application that
can be downloaded from BirdDog's
website.
A200 Gen 2 is targeted to begin
shipping in June 2021 and A300 Gen 2
will being shipping in July 2021.

A200 Gen 2 and A300 Gen 2 cameras, "

cameras in NDI mode, you can run a
single cable to them for NDI video,
PTZ control, and now remote camera
shading. You can also power them over
the same cable with the optional PoE
injector. "
Additionally, BirdDog is offering a
free update for all existing customers
of A200 and A300. The free update
requires users to return their units to
one of three BirdDog service centers
located
in USA, UK, and Australia,
and from there BirdDog will update
to the new software features to add
the Colour Matrix and Gamma tools.
It is a software update only, there is
no update to hardware, and further
details on this offer can be found on
the A200 and A300 product pages on
BirdDog's website.
