NDI® Bridge Brings New Capabilities

hile there's no secret that
nearly everyone dipped their
toes into some form of broadcasting in
2020 and 2021, next year will present a
true test. Content creators may still be
producing and streaming videos from
their home studios, but there will be a
greater demand for professionalising
that process.

With the advent of the latest
technologies from NDI®, remote
production will become even more
commonplace. NDI® is a video protocol
that allows for control, distribution
and viewing of video over IP. Over
the past several years, NDI® has
made managing and distributing
video over IP a lot easier. With NDIv5
and NDI® Bridge, camera operators
can literally
bridge
across
multiple
networks that don't otherwise touch
each other, allowing for remote

camera
control
from
another
location. In addition to cameras, NDI®
Bridge allows users to control PCs
on the network as well, another key
advantage for remote production
where a producer in another location
may
want
for
to
distributed

NDI®
production
software such as vMix.
Overall, NDI® Bridge allows flexibility
that
didn't
previously exist. NDIv5 Bridge only
works with equipment with NDI®
control,
protocols.
With its latest features, NDIv5 Bridge
basically acts as a gateway. Every
NDIv5 Bridge setup requires a host.
With security in mind, each location
can filter sources to ensure content is
viewable by certain groups using NDI®
capable production software or the
free NDI® Studio Monitor. NDI® Studio
Monitor also allows non-NDI® sources
- such as those connected via USB or
SDI - to be viewed via NDI® using the
free NDI® Tools.
So how does NDI® Bridge work?
NDI® Bridge:
* Uses Reliable User Datagram
Protocol (RUDP) as a transport
protocol (Point-to-Point);
* Requires a public static IP address
and port forwarding to reach other
networks;
* Supports multiple connections
over a single port;
* Allows for NDI® sources to be
placed in groups, which are then made
available across NDI® Bridge;
* Works with both high efficiency,
low bandwidth NDI®| HX and high
bandwidth NDI®.
Other studio adaptations in the new
year may include mounting multiple
cameras for livestream content
creation. One-shot views appear

adhering
to
space
or
constraints, many of today's cameras
offer dual outputs in 4K with ePTZ

of PTZ cameras have changed
dramatically. These powerhouses offer
smoothness of tracking, fine tuning of
pan, tilt and zoom speed and flexible
mounting options. Setting presets for
wide and dynamic shots provides a
storytelling experience. Along with
the addition of NDI®, auto-tracking is
becoming increasingly popular for PTZ
production teams.
